Title: What part do I need an IPAC?
Post by: Hawk Daddy on April 06, 2007, 01:33:32 am
Ok I want to run two joysticks players one and two. And I need to have

2-red
2-green
2-blue
2-yellow
2-purple
2-orange
2-black
1-Player 1 with the one person on it
1-Player 2 with the two people on it

1 of each color, and then one player one and two button.  Do I need an Ipac to hook that up to the pc?  Also can i make it to where say I hold down the player 1 & 2 buttons and it'll be like exit on the keyboard to back out of the game?

Thanks

Hawk

Yes you should get an ipac (you don't have to get one but it's probably easiest) and yes you can program it to register player 1 start and player 2 start pressed together as "exit" (but I wouldn't recommed that combination because you will be unintentionally exiting the game when you are playing something like Street Fighter).

Hawk

That is the default functionality of those two buttons, that is, you hook up Player 1 Start button to where it says 1STRT and Player 2 Start button to 2STRT and pressing both together (Actually press and hold Player 1 then press Player 2), will be like pressing ESC on the keyboard to exit game.

Check it out:

Also, if you press and hold Player 1 and press any of the arrow keys (UP, DN, LEFT or RIGHT) you can get various admin functions like ENTER, TAB, etc.

This is the way I got my setup hooked up and it works great.  You can Press and hold Player 1 and use the Player 1 joystick to do admin functions like accessing the menu and assigning controls for each game.

Thanks, is Ipac the best part to do this, or should I get something like a gpwiz, or something else.  I want to do this 1 time, and I want it to be the best that I can get at this time.

You also need at least one coin button, maybe two, no? And although it's "cheating", I couldn't live without my pause button.

Well the credit buttons will be the black buttons.  Also what all would I need to hook a track ball up for something like bowling, or golf?

The red, green, blue, yellow, purple, and orange buttons are the ones that will be the 6 player buttons, and the black ones will be player one and two credit.

You would need an optipac to go along with the ipac but if you wanted an all-in-one solution you could order the minipac which will accomodate everything.  I suggest also that you read Saint's book - there is a ton of useful information in there.

Look into the MiniPac.  It gives you all button inputs for 2 players as well as an optical interface for a trackball.  You can also get a trackball with a built in USB interface but they are usually more expensive than a standard arcade trackball which would hook into the MiniPac.

Oops, what javeryh said. :)

Ok so should I get a GPWIZ or an IPAC?  Whats the difference between them other then the ipca shows up as a keyboard and the GPWIZ shows up as a controller?  Which one works best for the purpose of MAME?

Neither of them.......

You should look at a KeyWiz for this NOT The GPWiz..... The Keywiz shows up as a Keyboard and not as a Gamepad.

To be honest, it's down to personal preference, but IMHO I don't think the IPac is the best product of the two.

See the minipac vrs GPwiz for a discussion of these 2.    Thread (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=65231.0)

If you don't want a trackball or spinner then I like the Keywiz then Ipac then Minipac in that order.  I have these 3 and cannot comment on the GPwiz.

Opti-Wiz from GGG is an option for the trackball also.
