Hi guys Im after some advice regarding modifying an old Golden Tee cabinet 100% working to a Mame cabinet. Im not sure where to start with the conversion and what to do with the parts that are left. Would you advise I leave it in a condition where I can change it back should I wish to do so or once I start is that really it.
The monitor, coin door and electronic mechs are all working and I would ideally like to use them on my mame set up I would also like to make it all turn on together at the same time like it currently does.
My main problems that I have at the moment apart from where do I start with this project (advice welcome) are as follows:
1. How to set up the Arcade monitor to my pc
2. How to remove some minor scratches to the monitor surface which are visible when playing
3. How to set up golden tee electronic coin mech to be used with my mame set up
4. Can the LED display be altered to scroll different message other than Golden Tee?

Ultimarc is your FRIEND...

If the Golden Tee is JAMMA compliant, JPAC will help you leave the insides pretty much intact and you will be able to hook up the coin mech and monitor... ArcadeVGA card will let you display the PC through the Golden Tee monitor...

Thanks for the reply how would I find out if its Jamma or not?

Sometimes the motherboard in the machine or the edge connector of the cable harness will actually say "JAMMA" somewhere on it.
The edge connector for the cable harness should look something like this:

Try these links for information:

Jamma and the JPAC will basically let you plug in the existing harness and interface it with the PC so that the trackball and buttons of the GT Fore 2005 act as the controls for MAME on the PC.
Also, do you plan to leave the CP like it is and just play Trackball games? or do you plan on playing games that require joysticks and more buttons? If the latter is true, then you will have to wire up those controls as well because the harness may have lots of extra unused wires.
Anyway, you still need to find out if the GT has a JAMMA setup in it. I do not own a GT Fore 2005, but I have worked on JAMMA games, and I do know someone who has converted a JAMMA game into a MAME using a JPAC. Let us know what you find out.

Seems like it would make more sense to sell this and purchase/build another cabinet to mame? isn't there is a lot of value left in that cabinet?

I did try and sell several times on ebay but no interest so decided to modify the cab is it is a nice design
-
That's a nice cab. I've been looking for a smaller Golden Tee cab (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=65106.0). Any chance you could post measurements?

If it didn't sell, it means you want too much for it. I get people every day looking for these games. Besides, since when is a "2005 GT Fore" an "old game"?
-
Where are you and how much did you ask? I look all the time, but don't really have the $900 most people want for them.
-
$900 for an original 2005 GT? Hell, I wish! Usually it's a converted 2002 with a new marquee. That I can see going for $900....

I would suggest not modding the cabinet, just make a new control panel. If you remove the old control panel and leave the original wiring intact, you will be able to reverse any changes made if you are able to sell the machine. Easier said than done if you want to add joysticks and more buttons, though.
The scrolling sign would be really cool if you were able to control that with a serial or parallel port connection.
Good luck with your project.

Open up the case and look at the back side of your scrolling sign. There should be some identifying sticker with a model number. Google that and you should come up with some good information. I am guessing that the message is either preprogrammed into the sign or controlled by the Golden Tee boards.
The CP would be a nice candidate for swappable panels. Plenty of space and you can keep the original CP for converting back later if you want.

I like that Idea Kaytrim I think I might just make my own CP and replace the current one leaving it ready to swop back if needed I was selling it for £350 which is what I paid for it when I bought it
-
Any chance you could post some detailed measurements of that thing? I love the layout and I agree it would be a very cool MAME cab...
-
65 " in height by 25" wide not sure if thats the measurements you were after if not let me know also added pics of inside machine wires and boards etc confusing stuff
-
Im goona take some more pics but can you help me with my monitor issues both scratches and unplugging it from its current set up and attaching ot to my current pc.
-
I'm in the same boat as you Marky. I just picked up a MK3 game in a Simpsons CAB at a local auction. I want to Mame the CAB and use the 25" WG 25K7193 monitor. My question is if I use Ultimarc Arcade VGA Card and JPAC, can I use my own CP? Can I connect the wires from the Jamma to my new CP? Seems like the thing to do but can any other buttons be added to the JPAC like some admin buttons? Just need some direction.

If I use the jpac and arcade vga can I also set up my dreamcast to the aracade monitor and hack a control pad??
