Title: Last few Mame questions. :-)
Post by: parpunk on April 03, 2007, 12:38:09 pm
hey guys. well i got everything up and going and its looks good. i used my hp pavilion 533w computer, installed a PCI card, and took s video to my 27" flat screen TV. i wanna thank everyone who helped me out on everything, especially Tiger heli! and xmenxmen! But i have some few questions before i make everything near perfect for my set up.

1. I am using Mame32, does anyone reccomend a good front end for it???

2. I have a radeon PCI card and i notice on my tv the edges around the desktop and mame games when i play them. Are like not perfectly straight they are kind of wobbely. kinda like the s video out is not formatting it perfect on my tv. Any possible way to fix this, and if so could you please explain step by step how? im still a newbie at alot of this.

3. Also is there any way to make a picture even clearer on my tv from an s video out?? any cheap upgrades or anything. i not being to picky, cause it does look great, and was a very cheap and effort free alternative from taking it to an arcade monitor, but i figured id ask, just to see if there is perhaps even something to make it even sharper.

thanks everyone! i believe this is all i need to work at the kinks. by the way all the screen tearing stopped since i turned triple buffer on! it works great now! thanks!

Don't people use Mame32 since it has a built-in frontend already?   I thought the only difference between Mame and Mame32 was that Mame32 included frontend software.

Anyway, I personally would recommend using MALA with the standard Mame build (ie: not the Mame32 build).

There is a nice choice of front ends available.  The top four are GameEx, AtomicFE, Mala & MAMEWah.  All four of these give you the ability for skinning.  The developers are also very active here on the boards and are constantly putting out updates and plug-ins.

You can find a full list of front ends over in the Wiki.  Here is a link. http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Front-Ends (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Front-Ends)

I also suggest that you take your monitor questions to the monitor forum.  Make sure you read the stickied ReadMe post at the top first.  There are specific bits of info that they need to be able to help you and they are listed in that thread.

TTFN

Try setting your mame at 640x432 in the .ini - many here have reported that to be the best resolution for a 480i TV.

Also, if you have a component (red, green, blue) input on the TV and DVI out on your video card, you might consider using a component converter ~$25 like here:
