(ebay link removed by saint as it appears to contain copyrighted material) -- please see http://mamedev.org/ebay.html for MAME's position on ebay auctions.
-
Nope. He said mame is installed. That is a no-no.
-
So you can say it's a cabinet for MAME but you can't say it's a cabinet with MAME installed?
Where does MAME get the money to protect their name?
-
I doubt it takes much money for the amount of actual protection they get. They own the name, and have rules for it. They can just report an auction to Ebay, and Ebay will shut it down.
I figure Ebay is pretty much the only place they get any kind of protection. People sell illegal mame cabs all the time.

I believe the builder of that machine is a member here. I remember seeing pics of it, and it's in the examples page.

Registering a trademark is like $250 and up. Not exactly a bank breaker.

Just because you register a trademark doesn't make the rest of the process of protecting that trademark free of costs.

I think it's a nice looking machine and the price is right.

If they wanted though, Mame could report those sites to their web hosts and ISP to get them shutdown. Hosts and ISPs want to cover their butts as much as eBay does.

That's not really true for all hosts or ISPs though.
