Title: Thoughts on my Ms Pacman, Galaga, CP overlay
Post by: Hawk Daddy on April 01, 2007, 09:53:14 pm
I still have to put in the buttons, or I may just leave them blank, and just let them go where they go, on the actual control panel.

So what do yall think?  What needs to be done.  Also the cabinet is going to be an exact replica of the Bally/Midway Cabinets that housed the reunion boards, except the sides.  The left is going to be painted blue with Donkey Kong Side art, and the right is going to be Yellow with the Pac-Man side art.  and the t-molding is going to be black, and the kick plate side is going to be black.  I still have to work on a marquee, and a bezel, but I figured I'd start with the control panel.

The CP looks pretty good to me. How will it look on a cab with 1 yellow side, 1 light blue side, and black front? Not very good, I don't think, but then again I might as well be color blind.

I've added the buttons and here is what it looks like.

I was wanting it to be like a reunion cabinet but with donkey kong and pac-man.  And it would have to be blue and yellow.  I'll get my uncle to draw it up in Solid Works, so that I can see what it looks like, before I do it.

I might consider changing the packman yellow outline of the pink stripe to match the thickness of the red galaga outline striping for consistancy sake.  other then that, looks good.

The joysticks and buttons seem WAY too high up on the CP.

Well it's going to wrap down, like on the original Bally Midway cabinets, so that the ms pacman and bugs will be waht you see on the front.

That is what I figured. I think that will look nice. Make sure once that happens that the controls aren't too close to the front of the cp, though.

OK I added in dk jr, not sure what I think about it yet though. Also the whit line represent the bends, where the cp will bend down.

What do yall think about dk jr?

I really like the overall concept and design quality of your cpo, but like you said, I'm not sure about DKjr.  I think that somehow in this view of the cpo he forces the eye to the arrows around the p2 joystick.  I bet though, that if you modeled it so that it was more of a 3 dimensional representation of what the cp will really look like, he will fit nicely into the front of the panel as he is and that his vine will do a nice job of separating the two player sections.  Try either mapping the image onto a 3d image of the cp or just faking it by skewing the top to look like it will in relation to the face.  I tried it in the Gimp and didn't quite get it do do what I am talking about, but I am still a bit of a gimp with the Gimp and don't have photoshop at home.

I like it.  Don't add much more, though.  Simple and well done always wins over complex and crammed.

I like it too - perhaps instead of a full sized DKJr, you can put in an instruction card with some miniature characters on it.

Well I thought about this all day and have decided to throw this Idea out the door.  I'm still going to do a MAME cabinet but I'm going to use the Mercs cabinet, I don't want to put any more moeny in this then I have too, I would love to have a donkey kong pacman cabinet, but one I don't have the time, and two I don't have teh tools necessary to build one.  And I don't know any carpenters that could help me so I'm SOL.  And I really have no idea how I'd make the channel for the t molding.  So I'm just going to design up a new CP for mercs, maybe even add a spot for a joystick, track ball or steering wheel, not sure though, it's still gonna be 2 players, but just a diffent cp image.
