Title: v3 steering wheels in mame
Post by: struby on March 28, 2007, 10:28:46 pm
I have one of these v3 steering wheels in my closet, it uses a serial port, which my computer doesn't have, but i'm assuming there is a usb adapter for it, if i got another used one, could I use 2 in mame for 2 player super off road for instance, or even 3 or 4 if i had the usb slots, or could I just use 1, or none even?

Super Off Road wants a wheel that spins all the way around, and is attached to the computer as a mouse.  PC wheels only spin partway around, and are attached to the computer as a joystick.

You could use it to play Power Drift, though.

Well, it won't work too well for super off road or Sprint, since those wheels were actually spinners.  That wheel will work well for pot based driving games like Spy Hunter, Road blasters, Hard Drivin', Cruisin' USA, etc.

If you think back to playing the actual games, just subtract any games that had free spinning steering wheels from the games that will play well with your wheel.

*edit* Kremmit just posted and, yes, what he said.

I can't guarantee your wheels with work with a Serial -> USB converter.  If your computer recognizes them, then MAME ought to as well.
