Title: Control panel layout- Does the trackball get in the way of the spinner?
Post by: shredso on March 27, 2007, 09:47:55 pm
I'm planning a new control panel.  many CP's I see have a trackball in the center and a spinner above it.  For anyone who has this type of layout:
Is the spinner too high up?  it looks like you would have to reach and the trackball would get in the way.
Are the buttons too far away from the spinner to be a comfortable fire button in Arkanoid?
Do you find this layout cramped?

Thanks for any input.

I love me a round of Golden Tee, so I dont have anything above my trackball for the safety of my fingers.  I have a 2 player, 6 button each setup with the trackball in the middle.  My spinner is above the player 2 buttons, high enough that I can rest my palm on the CP without hitting the player 2 buttons.  I then use my right hand on the spinner and left on the 1P buttons.   Works out great.  I have a project announcement thread that shows my CP layout if you want to see it (it hasnt been updated in awhile, so it may be a few pages back).

I agree with WLVRYN. We have play testesd both joysticks and spinners above the trackball and you WILL hurt your hand playing Golden Tee.

For playability, just above the player 1 buttons works well. If you have 3 mouse buttons to the side of your trackball, just above them works wel. In MAME the 3 mouse buttons can be used for the spinner game fire buttons.
