Title: Johnny5 Problenms
Post by: spin on March 27, 2007, 06:37:36 pm
Hey,

I am new to all of this so I apologize in advance if this is an easy fix.  I am trying to run Johnny5 3.2beta with Mame32 112.  I have been following setup instructins from

http://www.mameworld.net/tigerheli/johnny/setup.htm

and I get a run-time 7 Out of Memory error.  The background pic of the panel comes up momentarily, then the error window and when I click ok on the error window everything then closes.  I tried an earlier version of Johnny5 and didn't have the error BUT none of the labels would come up.  I assumed that it was because Mame 112 uses xml files vs ini.

I do not know what to do and would appreciate any help that could be offered.

Thanks,

Sorry, I have nothing usefull, but...
256 RAM
p4 3.0ghz
256?  seriously?  I think I would expect nothing but memory errors under XP.

Typo? 256mb video memory?

Yeah seriously man, you are running mame plus another app and you are in xp... that's a lot of your issue right there.  With that being said, you shouldn't get memory errors on a modern os if your page files are setup correctly.  I'd suggest looking at your xp setup before anything.

Also some things of note....

Don't use mame32, j5 is designed for mame, mame32 support is not guaranteed.  Yes there are differences, most noteably that mame32 doesn't always support all the command line flags of mame, which are used extensively by j5.

If you have a badly corrupted ctrlr or cfg file, j5 could be getting sent into some sort of infinate loop trying to read it, which could eat up all your memory.  This is highly unlikely though.

Thanks all ... I actually have gotten CPViewer working so I think I will roll with that.  As far as the 256mb ... I have an old computer that I use to test things before I put them on my MAME computer.  The MAME computer has 2 gigs of ram, AMDx2 etc.  a MUCH better computer.

Thanks again,
