Title: Another MaLa question, emulators and exit
Post by: squirrellydw on March 27, 2007, 09:07:13 am
If I have mame, nestopia, daphane, etc loaded, how does mala list those games?  Will they show up in 1 list or different lists?

Also I am using an ipac4 and I want to exit mala with one key, how can I set it up to do this?  I tried making a macro with the ipac4 (Esc + 1) but it didn't work.  I want to use a shift key to do this.  Any idea?

Thanks

See Pic- You choose a key (be it shited or not)  to get the 'Quit Confirmation', if you press that key again it will go away or press your allocated 'start game' key to quit

I have that set up.  Exit is Esc and Start is 1   When I hit the exit key I have mapped it shows the Quit confirmation screen.  I want it to exit out all the way with out the confirmation screen.  Right now I have to hit two different buttons.  Anyway to change this?  Hope you know what I mean.

Hmmmm... that's disappointing.  I just started using MaLa recently and have been bothered by that too.  As configurable as MaLa is, I'm surprised that can't be changed.

Do you want to exit to windows or do you want to shut down?   If you want to shut down,  there are many shutdown .exe or .bat files that you can set a hot key to load when you push a certain button.  That sounds like it should work?

Who said it can't be changed? I have never heard thsi request before.  Personally I like the fact that my cab can't be quit by accident. as you have to hit another button to confirm of the same button to dismiss

With MaLa RC9 even a plug-in can even Shut-down mala so I'm sure it's easily done

MaLa can shutdwon windows on exit already without a bat file (if you want it to)

I thought YOU just said it couldn't be changed.  :) Maybe my other message was poorly written.  By "changed" I'm talking about configuring the current version to exit without confirmation, not modifying MaLa itself to add that feature.  I'm sure that could be done.

And I'm not suggesting it would be switched permanently, just that the option could be there.  I understand the value for people with a dedicated Quit button, however for someone using a Shift key combination to exit, that's already a safeguard against accidental quit-age.

PS if you want mala to quit and windows to shutdown with one button, another way (if you have Win 200 or xp)  is to wire the power button (low voltage ;) ) to a secret spot on your cab. Then you can have windows shutdown when pressed (see attached pic)

Now that I played with it a little I like the confirmation.

Two ways I know of:
1)
*See pic.
- Create a new game list (called whatever you want)
- Right click and add to that list

2)
Use malagamelist.exe to make gamelists however you want

Actually I think there is another way (I don't like this method)

You can set up a 'Add game' key in options-controller-keyboard-advanced.

It brings up a menu bla bla bla... I don't recommend that method

waking up an old thread as opposed to starting a new one ...

I've had to rebuild my cab after a hard drive crash.  I moved from XP to Windows 7.

I have a botton on top of my cab.  It can not be accidentally pushed.  It is mapped to 'M'.  On my old cab, I know that I had this mapped such that my PC would shutdown when it was pressed (no confirmation).

Right now, I got so far as to have Mala give me the "confirm shutdown" dialog.  I used to have it setup so that it did not give me the confirmation.  It just shutdown.  How did I do this?  I know it is possible since i had it set up that way in the past.

There's tons of utilities out there that can be launched from a dos box to shutdown, hibernate, or logout a machine.

Here's one example

http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000321.htm (http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000321.htm)

You could script a bat file to load Mala, and when Mala terminates, automatically shutdown windows, for instance, You might also configure an Autohotkey script attached to the M button that runs your shutdown batch file.

on the confirm shutdown, there is a checkbox in the Options/GUI/Mala Exit tab to turn confirmation off.  ***I do not run windows 7 so don't know if this performs the same as it does under XP.***

I messed with the shutdown thing a lot and the best thing to do with your top power switch is tie it directly to the pc's power supply wiring.  then, with a momentary press you can shutdown or hibernate, etc. according to what you've set up in windows.  Mala works well and resumes properly from hibernation so that's what I tend to use.
