Title: Looking for a friend of mine
Post by: tetsujin on March 26, 2007, 02:25:25 pm
Hey, this is a bit awkward but hopefully it'll work out, and all's well that ends well.

Anyway, I'm looking for a friend of mine who I haven't seen in a few years.  I know that when we were in contact he was interested in making an arcade machine (or at the very least, he was interested enough in it that he was able to tell me about Happ Controls), so I thought this might be worth a try.  The only lead I currently have for finding him is his ex-girlfriend - and for various reasons I'd rather not try that.

Anyway, his name is Randy, and last I saw him was maybe four years ago, in Maine.

If you are he, or know how I could find him, a PM would be most appreciated.

Funny!

But not helpful.  :)

Hey, he's my brudda from anodda mudda.

That's pretty vague. Did he hang out at BYOAC. If so, his alias might help.

Randy?

ChadTower: ---fudgesicle--- off.

I suppose I should add that he's probably in his late 20's or early 30's at this point.  I visited him and his then-GF Gail at their home in Providence a few times before they moved to Maine.

I don't really know what other information I could provide that would help people here find him - and I don't really feel like providing a whole bunch of unnecessary information.  If he's on here and he reads the message, he'll know who he is and who I am.  If I knew his alias on BYOAC, why would I need to post a message like this?   I don't even know for a fact that he is a member of BYOAC.  But for people in the hobby, this is one of the places to go.

ChadTower: ---fudgesicle--- off.

You would do well to acquaint yourself with the way things are here in EE.  That was humor.  You came in randomly, made a weird and vague post, and it got a response.  Such is life here.  Get used to it.

The next Randy:

Fair enough, I guess.  I should apologize for losing my patience.  I'm sorry.

But I'd be quite pleased if you'd give it a rest.  So I'm an easy target and you have some laughs at my expense.  All fine and good, right?  I have to deal with a bit of that if I'm gonna find this guy.  But I'm serious here, and you're not helping.  Try this handy checklist:

If the answer to the above is "no", then it's not you.  Move along.

I know of a guy who lives in Maine named Randy. He is the manager of some business. His employee Donny Baker is always calling up Bob and Tom on the radio and talking to them. Then Randy yells at Donny to get off the phone.

I think Donny wrote a song about him too.

While we are on the subject... I am looking for friend of mine as well.

His name is Chin, and he lives in Hong Kong. If anybody knows him, have him call me.

If you're looking for someone to identify him and send him your way, that won't work.  That's the joke, right?  That's great.

If, on the other hand, you have reason to believe he might be here, and that he'd know, upon reading the message, that he's the one you're looking for, then there's a chance he'll read the message and get in touch with you.  That's kind of what I'm going for here.  Still seems like a longshot, huh?

A last name might help narrow things down.

A last name might help narrow things down.

Sadly, I don't know it.  If I did, I could probably track him down a lot more easily.

I understand that people who would like to help don't have much of anything to go on - I don't have much to go on, either.  If I had his last name I most likely wouldn't need to resort to this kind of a shot-in-the-dark approach.  (Even if the basic process has the potential to work - what if somebody tried looking for me this way, right?  Maybe I'd see the message - if I happened to log on to the forums that year...  Trust me, I know how unlikely it is this will work.  :) )

Heart wrote a song about this in the 80s.  It was a pretty good song.

If his name was something more unique than Randy, maybe something like Parenthesis Plus Sign Underscore Plus Sign Close Parenthesis, he might be easier to track down!

Does he owe you money?  I can't think of many other reasons that you would be looking for someone who you haven't seen in four years who you know almost nothing about.  A first name does not a very close friend make, I think.

Maybe Randy is reading this but wants to know why you want to find him first.   ;)

Then maybe you should take your business elsewhere.  :timebomb: Try looking on the sides of milk cartons or those missing person displays when you enter a grocery store.

That might be a good place to start.  :laugh2:
