Comments on whether or not the front page news items have been something that interest you are also appreciated!
-
I link in to the main page then click on message boards, so I see it every day. Whenever there is a new topic, I scroll down to see what all is there.
-
Never really, I have forum.arcadecontrols.com in my bookmarks. But now that I look at the frontpage I see I should check that one out too ^^
-
rarely, I just go straight to the forums.... I don't go to the forums through the front page because it adds that side bar to the forums that way.....
-
I just type in arcadecontrols.com when I log in. From there I give a quick scroll down to see if there is any cool new news. So, I check it everyday pretty much.
I almost gave up on it last month, though, as the updates were very sparse. ;D
-
It's set as my home page, so I see it every time I log on. I enter the forums through a separate link, though, so I don't get the stinking menu frame.
-
I have a forum.arcadecontrols.com bookmark at home and at work.

Exactly the same here to be honest...
Adding the News: "Have you visited the BYOAC front page lately? Lots of news items being posted!" did help though ! And I quite like it. OK I'll add a direct bookmark :D

I may have no life.
I look at the main page articles everyday.
I like to read them and go to the linked pages.
Hanging out here at Build Your Own Arcade Controls
is the best part of my day!
-
I would have voted "Daily" if that were an option. I look at it the first time I log in, but go directly to the Msg Board on subsequent visits. I find the majority of the items interesting, so I hope you continue to do it!

Suggestion:
Add a MAIN FORUM post for relevant news items to comment on them. I'd have easily commented on that funny ass BREAKOUT news item but I was too damn lazy to start my own topic.

Two times since I've been here.
-
The front page is not allowed by the work proxy... the forum gets through. :dunno

I am guilty of this as well

Nice try...I'm not buying it.

I see why.
The main site page has a lot of keywords in the meta part of the code such as game, console, downloads and hack. All of which are considered naughty words in the eyes of company IT departments and on the block list.
The forum page alone however has just this:
PHP, MySQL, bulletin, board, free, open, source, smf, simple, machines, forum
Nothing fun about those words so the page is not blocked.
-
Plus we're a very web heavy dev dept. If they banned those terms half the developers would lose access to stuff they really need.

How about an RSS feed of the main page news so we don't have to "check" it? I am so used to my content being delivered that I don't think I have "checked" a site in about a year now.

I'd use this too.
-
I go straight into the forums because I didn't care for the side frame and always had to use the Firefox "Open Link In A New Tab" thing to get the forums full screen. Eventually, I just started using the forum direct link in the site history.
I find myself reading more of the news items now that you're putting the links in the forums. I think its a great idea.
-
I always check the front page news. If I see an update, I scroll down to make sure I read all the latest.
Great job on this board, Saint. :notworthy:
I know everyone here appreciates this board, as I do.
I built my first machine before I stumbled upon this board.
I have learned a lot here that would have helped me tremendously on that first project.
I get the feeling this must be some kind of community service thing you are doing to repay your debt to society. :laugh2:
Just kidding... we really do appreciate what you are doing here.
(Now wheres that kissing :censored: icon??) LOL

That's a shame.
That they never blocked the forum as well.. :laugh2:

Would of bookmarked it instead of the forums but

If you click the button next to "msg boards" it opens it in a frame. If you click the words "msg boards" instead of the button it opens the forum full screen :)

twice a Day ;D same as retrobalst 8)

I didn't know that, I'll check the front page more often!
-
I used to a lot more often but since it seems to be more spottily updated now, not so much.
Disclaimer: I realize Saint is very busy, and I'm not complaining.
-
Yeah, the last few weeks have been non-existent. Some personal issues in the way as is apt to happen from time to time. :)
-
I visit it around every 10-14 day's.
I would visit it more often if it were a clickable option above like the other forums are.
-
Click the ArcadeControls.com logo on the top left :)
-
I voted rarely as I only check when you post a 'heads up' thread regarding a news item. With family and work, I just don't have enough time to do everything that I'd like to do...

While this is true, I find that I often forget about it there. Perhaps there could be a 'news' or 'front page news' forum, each thread would be the subject of the news item, and the first post in that thread would be a link to that item (kinda like the heads up threads are now). Lock the forum so only mods/saint can post new threads, but maybe (???) leave the thread unlocked so that users can discuss in that thread. Or just leave it locked? :shrug
Interesting on the RSS feed. I've never used it, but am very close to starting (using others). Not sure how much extra work that causes or if it would be worth the effort as saint seems busy enough as it is. (Thanks for all you do, BTW)

Instead of spreading news posts throughout the various forums, should there be a single news forum? If discussions start then a thread could later be moved to an appropriate forum...

It works fine the way it is.

if you want the forum members to see news on the main page without actually visiting it, couldn't you have some sort of live link(or whatever you would call it) on the forums page that reads say the last 5 headlines, and displays somewhere at the top or side of the forum?
-
i like the front page news, i'll quickly scroll down to see whats new or interesting first, then hit the boards. which is pretty much daily ;)
-
I have a forum.arcadecontrols.com bookmark at home and at work.
same here

I check it regularly, but this is a good idea...sort of a closed shoutbox of sorts. You could just use the news section at the top of the forum for that purpose. :dunno
