Ok play nice please I'm only new at this! :P
Bought a Neo Geo aussie lowboy cab. Was in reasonable nick, Had 20" Monitor which was very dull and not usable. Had jamma connector, credit board no coin mechs. Was typical neo geo reddy/pink color. I bought a arcade vga card and jpac. I didn't end up using these as the monitor was unusable.
I have a mate who was a arcade tech back in the 80's. He took the wiring, monitor and internals and put them to good use. This basically left me with the shell. I purchased a 19" LCD, a mini pac, buttons etc. This is what it looked like to start with. Control panel was peeling off. I wanted to base this on a galaga theme. that pink/red laminate would not do!
-
After removing everything I scrubbed off the control overlay. I used goo off to get rid of the remaining glue residue. I then applied a black vinyl overlay. I bought green and blue buttons to tie in with the galaga color scheme. I also had a quick and dirty marquee printed on thick card.

Hello there!
Great start on the conversion!
I'll be spying ..along with all the other Galagaists (is that a word, really?)
Just remember that pictures are (word x 1000)!
Good luck with the project!
Psycho.

Cheers Pyschotech!
Well i had to get rid of that ugly pinky red colour laminate. Got myself some laminate paint ( expensive stuff).
here's a look of the result after one coat then 3.

Much better than pink! So why did you go with the mini-pac? Are you planning to add some goodies on later?

Hi Chris,
No the mini pac was purchased because I was lazy!
Well here are some more pics. Not sure wether I should do side art? Maybe it will be to much? or not enough? Any thoughts appreciated.
Here is a side on shot.

I've gone to buy a couple of those Neo Geo cabs...but I always got turnned off by the pink/red/salmon colour.
Now I might have to think twice next time one comes up.
They seem to be on sale here in Sydney evry few weeks.
Good Job....... And oi oi oi for the aussies.

Thanks freeplay. I love the aussie lowboy shape. The laminate paint worked out really well. Expensive but worth i think.
cheers

Any comments I wether I should do side art would be appreciated from anyone.

:applaud:
I really like this cab!
Don't really have an opinion on the sideart .. The cab looks so much better now as it is!
Whatever you decide to do, do not use "too much*" of the original pink ;D
* DO NOT!

It looks a bit too "Black". If it were mine, I would replace the black t-molding with either green or red, to match some of your controls. Just my two cents.
What does a used lowboy go for if you don't mind me asking?
-
hey Coder,
thanks for the idea on the t-molding.
Well here in Australia on ebay I guess anything from $150 to $600 AUD.
cheers

I second the idea on the T-molding. Keep it black but put some coloured T-molding in it, and it looks aw'righto in my book...

Seems like a contradiction...

:hissy:
:) Okay, I phrased it rather badly ;D What I wanted to say: keep the SIDES black (as they are now). Now don't go front-side and back-side on me... 8)

Philby,
Ozstick in Melbourne has T Moulding for $2.20 per metre (AUD)
So for less than $20 you coud make it look like one of Knievel's Cabs.

They have plenty of other colours too...... well worth the facelift.

Hey Freeplay,
thanks for the tip. I already have some blue t-molding from ozstick. I have purchased a bit of gear from them.
cheers mate
