Title: FS: Actual working Wizard of Wor
Post by: fredster on March 20, 2007, 09:24:34 pm
I have a Wizard of Wor.  I'd say it's an 8.2 on a scale of 10.  The bezel is in about the best shape of one of these I have ever seen.

The control panel is nearly perfect.  The side art is scratched up but still in good shape. (It's like that because the back has a monitor bubble, and it cannot be moved on it's back, only on the sides, for the last 20 years).

I had to repair the back door and replace it.  I used the original monitor bubble, and it is just a piece of fiberboard now.  The Coin door is actually a dummy, the front it there, but no guts.

However, the P/S, monitor, and the Marquee are as good as they get for a machine this old.  They are in good working order.

I want $275 cash, and you need to pick it up in  Middle TN.  I won't ship it.

I will however help you load the back of your truck  :)  And I will even wrap it in plastic wrap to protect it.

PM me if you are interested.  Thanks for looking!

Just out of curiosity, how is that front panel under the coind door set up?  I've seen some like this, and others like the one I have, with a black drawer type set up on the front.

Reading up on it, this is serial number 753 or something like that.  They built a bunch of the first models like this.  I've had 3 of these machines.  This one is the lowest serial number I've had.

I have never opened the bottom.  I got in from the back.  The rest of the cab was fine, but the back door was trashed. I think it sat in a corner with the door off for a while and the door must have been soaked.  The new one just needs painted to match and it would be very hard to see it's not original.

I had to replace the speech chip on the main board.  (I took one from a gorf).  The wizard's voice is nice.  I have some extra parts for it, including a cap kit and the 3 speaker amp.

That coin door is the standard Midway door of the time.  If you have one on another machine, it will work fine.  I put a switch to coin it up, and that's the wire you see comming out of it.  Otherwise, the inside is perfect.

The WoW I repaired for a guy had the black door on the front bottom.  Secured with tension clips that you release from inside for it to swing down to the floor, then remove a couple screws holding the shelf secure, and slide it out the front.  Be careful to unplug the back connector before pulling it out all the way as it won't reach and will bend the pins.

After it blew the original flyback on the G07, I replaced it but noticed it was starting to display vertical lines during the maze screens, either in attract mode or gameplay, but not during instruction screens.  Ended up replacing one of the small Ram boards (also from one of the 2 Gorf sets I had lying around) and that fixed it.  Game is happily back with it's owner.

I always thought this game was unique mainly because of the 3 separate volume controls - 1 for the left player and some background, 1 for the right player and some different background, and 1 for the Wizard's voice.

It's unique.  That's for sure. And if the wizard doesn't taunt you, it's not fun.

This one is a real classic. The Mame version doesn't sound as good as this one.  I think they didn't get the voice synthisis right.

This monitor is original, and it must have very few hours on it.  It looks really good on the inside and outside.  I don't know where this one has been hiding for those years, but it's in really great working condition.

Still up for sale...  ;)
