Title: Galaga 1981 Original
Post by: Hawk Daddy on March 19, 2007, 04:01:24 pm
What would be an expected price range for a working original 1981 galaga machine.  Cabinet is in pretty good shape, not perfect, but good and sturdy.

If you live in the right area, a working Galaga in decent shape will sell for $600-$700 easy.

Well then I guess the $50 that I paid for it was a great value then.  I was just wanting to get an estimate on a saleing price, for after I repaint it and replace the graphics.

I checked flea bay, and they have them from $50-$790, I personally really like the game, so I think I'm going to just fix it up, and then maybe years from now sale it.  But I'm a keep it for now.

There is a guy locally selling 4 Galaga's at $400 each and they all 4 look to be in worse condition that that one...PLUS none work (though he does include working boards (so he says))....

The artwork looks good as well.

Marquees, however, have been going at silly prices on eBay lately.

Wait ... there were cabs available locally and Frizzle didn't buy them ?

Cheers.

I took the marquee out, to replace the light behind it, if you look at the pics the one that shows the entire machine, in the floor on the left is the marquee.

I think I'm going to just take the stuff out, sale the parts, paint over the art work, and then but a tv and a modded xbox running all the emulators, cause I don't think galaga is that big of a hit.  There was only like 57,000 quarters ran threw it.  :) lol j/k

I got them from this place like a thrift store.  He had one more, but I'm not sure what it was.  And he said that 2 weeks ago he had a PacMan that he sold for $50 and thats when I was kicking my self cause like, If I would have pac man, and galaga I wouldn't need mame.   But Mercs is fun, and galaga, is well GALAGA.  BUt I seriously did buy both of them for $50 a peice, the mercs has one joy stick messed up, but all else works fine.

I think the price compared to cab state is weird, as well as thinking of parting it out on top of that - even if that's a passing whim.  Did you all miss that?

Yeah I was kidding about parting this thing out, I love Galaga, but I am still thinking about mercs, not sure what I'm a do with it yet.  But Galaga is definitly staying in one piece, well I am going to paint it, and put new art work on it.  I'm having it printed up new week. $100 for everything.

Instead of even thinking about parting out that Mercs, why don't you just go get that other cab at the thrift store and throw a tv and xbox in it. Even if you don't want the Mercs, you could sell it to someone who does and make a little profit to help fund your project.

Um I'm not sure, but I know that that would be like $50 more, and it's a game that I don't even like, and the cabint doesn't look as good as the MERCS, shape wise.  And even too with that machine it works 100% also.  Maybe I should just build  a cabinet based off the MERCS cabinet??????  How much would that much OSB board cost?

Umm...well...you see...the thing is...huh?

Anyhow, in the end you bought this cab, and you can do whatever the hell you want with it. I was just giving you options. I enjoy seeing things preserved/restored, but if you mame that thing I doubt I would lose any sleep over it.

You could do a little cosmetic work and fix the joystick on the Mercs, then sell it. Use some of the profit to really make the Galaga nice.

Stop with the animated gifs, please.  When I'm trying to check out details on a picture, having it cycle thru five more pictures makes it extremely difficult.

You are going to destroy that original artwork that looks to be in good shape in exchange for some reproduction stuff you are having printed up next week (inkjet I assume)?

well I had planned on it, but now I'm just going to tape it off, so tha tI don't have to spend another $100 on it.  And it was going to be vinyl, and for the controls it was going to be on what they call the high endurance or whatever.  I am going to buy some new T-Molding, I was thinking about green, but most likly it will be black.

Not that gifs aren't annoying but you can hit the escape key to stop a gif.  At least in firefox...  Been so long since I've used IE I don't recall if it works the same.
