I just bought MERCS for a really good price and was going to Turn it into a MAME machine, with a TV and an Xbox. BUt I was trying to find out stuff about it on the net and couldn't really find anything, so that got me to wondering, if it was worth anything. Like a rare find in the arcade world. It works good and everything, and I plan on gutting it out, it had a huge monitor.

It isn't a rare game, and is likely a conversion. Got any pics?

Not really a collectible or anything. It really depends on what shape it is in to figure what it's value would be. Is it in an original cabinet like this one?

Yep thats the cabinet that it has in it. I got it for $50. The left and right controls don't work, but the center one does. And the cabinet is actually in really good shape. The art work looks good, and the cabinet is sturdy.

Well then you definitely got an excellent deal. Congrats.

Why would you buy a good shape cab to stick a TV in? Is the monitor missing?

To use with the Xbox that's going in the cab of course! :laugh2:

DUH!!! And because I have no clue how to make an xbox work on that monitor. ANd the monitor works perfect. And Like I said it was $50 for the entire machine working and all.

That's a 25" arcade monitor there- it's worth the $$ you paid by itself, if you can find a local buyer or one that will come pick it up- it'd be a serious bugger to package for shipping, and expensive. The PCB goes for around $25 on ebay.
It also has the dreaded "angled" joysticks. If I were converting a Mercs, I'd re-mount them so they're straight.
Isn't there an RGB cable available for Xbox that would let one work with an arcade monitor? You'd have to rotate it to horizontal, of course.

Yeah I have an RGB cable for an xbox, but how would I be able to hook it to the monitor, I honestly haven't really looked at the back of it, surely there isn't rgb plugs into is there, or would I have to do some soldering, cause I can do that? And what do you mean my angled joysticks, there straight on mine I think, unless ur talking about the hinge thing?

If you look inside the control panel, you'll see that the center joystick is mounted straight, but the other ones are mounted at an angle. So in order to move up, you have to push the handle diagonally. It messes me up when I try to play on a stick mounted that way.

Got cha, now what about the RGB stuff for the xbox, if you don't mind?

I am pretty sure he means "Why are you gutting a perfectly good working dedicated cab when there's a plethora of other cabs that you can just stick a tv and xbox in?"
You know, in the spirit whole preservation thing. Saint has the Arcade Cabinet Manifesto (http://arcadecontrols.com/arcade_manifesto.shtml) front and center on the main page.

Well after reading that I do agree, That a perfectly working cabinet isn't something that I should destroy to put an xbox running mame in. So I guess I'm a try to find a game that is non working.

So are the two links at the bottom supposed to work?
The junkyeard looks like it's long gone and the graveyard just times out. Were they so heart wrenching that they could no longer be viewed?

Yes, yes they were. ;)

Never had an Xbox, never tried to put a console in a cab. So I've never done it, don't have much advice- I just know it's possible. The guys in the Monitor/Video forum should be able to help with that part.

Post some pics of this Mercs
