Yesterday, the parts I've been assembling into my cab start randomly crashing at random times. Then, it stopped responding at all.
I pulled everything out of the case, and found that the motherboard had a bent corner. I have no idea how that happened, but it cut vital traces.
Then I noticed the char on the power supply header. I looked at the plug on the PS, and it was black and melty.
I have no idea how this could have happened, but I suspect that, while my wife was on a cleaning binge, she may have thrown some stuff on/in the machine when she threw it in a closet.
It wasn't big hardware, but it was all I had. Now I'll have to buy more. Dammit!

As Bart Simpson would say "I didn't do it ".
-
That SUCKS!
But it DOES gives you an excuse to get a new motherboard that can handle some of the newer games ;D
(From Monty Pythons "Meaning of Life")
always look at the brighter side of life.. do do... do do... do do do do do do....

Or from "The Damned":
... I just can't get happy today...
Okay, I'm a melancholic person! ;)

sukz to be YOU! ;D lol. j/k I feel for ya man! :'( check out www.pricewatch. com and you should be able to find a good deal on there. As always, check with the vendor to make sure what kind of return policy they have and if you can help it, always use a major credit card for online purchases as if the vendor screws yo some how, then you have the power of visa or mastercharge to investigate and get your money back. Its saved me MORE then once! :) Just some helpful hints.

No way, man. I've heard too many horror stories from there. I think I'll stick to either newegg.com, compugeeks.com or computersurplusoutlet.com

Nothing TOO substantial...if you've ever checked out my site, the listing of what hardware I'm using in this particular cab is on there.
If you haven't...it was a cheap PC CHIPS motherboard. I'm guessing the PS and MoBo are toast. Can't say anything about the other stuff, as I don't have any way to test the RAM now. ATI video card replaced the S3 I was going to use.
No, the 486 is still here, and running like a top. I don' think it'll ever die. And, sadly, for now, it's the heart of my system.
For now.

She was justified. I've been using the dining room as my tech bay for some time. We were having company over, so we needed the dining room.
I just can't believe it. I've had that board since 1998. It's performed flawlessly. Now it's cracked.
Ah, well, as everyone's been saying, it's an excuse to get some faster hardware. Although, with the games I want to play, I don't need anything faster. Perhaps just a replacement board...a better one. I've got a bid on eBay for an Asus P5-A.

I feel your pain. My machine lives in a frat house. It gets scuffed up, dented, banged around and God only knows what else. It's the ultimate endurance test.
Something new breaks every week or so. I've had to re-mount my joystick probably 10 times because they keep getting pushed through!!

My cab's plexi around the controls keeps getting scratched from peoples watchs. So as a word of advice, don't use plexi for that. Also get a lock to stop people throwing stuff in your cab.

The cab hasn't even been assembled yet. The computer parts (in a coverless case) were on the dining room table. She just picked everything up and put it in the closet. Probably wouldn't have been a problem, if stuff hadn't gotten stacked on top, and in, it.
