Title: Curious of the Value
Post by: shredso on March 18, 2007, 03:48:32 am
I bought a Mortal kombat II machine that was originally a Double Dragon.  It has a 25" TV and a Systemax 1.7 Ghz 256 Ram upgraded Video Card.  The interface is an Ipac.  I understand I can't sell it with any games installed, but can I say it has MaLa fully configured for Mame, Nes Genesis, and 2600?  I'm thinking of building a new cabinet from scratch and I'm curious what I can sell this for.  Thanks.

Ed.

IMHO, depending on the condition of the cab, I wouldn't make a new one.  I have some woodworking skills, but I don't have the time/equipment to build a cab.  You might want to modify the current cab.  Again, my humble opinion.

Out of repspect, I would ask Swindus if this is ok. I haven't seen his particular statement, but most FE devs say you can use it for whatever you want as long as you aren't selling it. Also, you shouldn't have Mame installed either, as per the wishes of the Mame devs.

Cracks me up that the "MAME Devs" have gotten all huffy about copyrights.  Everyone involved with that project is damned lucky they aren't doing hard time for criminal copyright infringement.  All it's gonna take is one person acquiring the rights to an emulated game that has a real chip on their shoulder.

Umm... ever heard of Namco?

I have it listed on Craigslist for $1,000.  I've gotten a couple emails but nothing too promising.

Holy friggin' cow. If you get $1000 for that consider yourself very very lucky.

Good luck

That was the whole idea of this thread, to try and get a rough value.  What do you think is a fair asking price?

I'd say $450-$850 depending on the person you sell it to.

It is a box with a computer in it.  It has a nice interface. It's not street legal.

I'd have it fully loaded. I wouldn't buy it without all the stuff installed.

I don't think Namco is going to come in and sue you.  Last I heard they didn't have a radar for illegal sales of their trademarks.

And if you don't tell the Mame dev's, we won't either  ;)

Well, if he is going to do that, he shouldn't even tell us at all. After all, it is against the rules, and somebody will send it to Post Hell.

I agree, that sounds about right.
