Title: Got an unexpected keeper yesterday
Post by: ChadTower on March 16, 2007, 10:34:38 am

Sometimes one of your dream machines just drops in your lap.  Got an email from a friend yesterday that he knew someone selling a Fathom (http://www.ipdb.org/search.pl?any=fathom&search=Search+Database&searchtype=quick#829) locally... got some pics, it's in very good shape, about 95% working, needs a good shopping.  This is one of my dream titles but it's also a collector's A List title so they usually sell for way more than I'm willing to pay.  Well, this one was at a price I was willing to pay.  Went to look at it last night, bought it on the spot, it's in my shed now waiting to be set up for shopping.

These are the seller's pics, I haven't taken any yet as I just got it home about ten last night.

F#$%ing Awesome.

This is one of those machine that I'll probably never be able to get.  I'd settle for a repro backglass just because it so nice.

BTW, Your luck at coming across Pinball machines sucks.

Heh.  I thought this was going to be one of those machines I never got, too, and it's on my very short list of permanent keepers.

I've found the best way to find specific titles is just to stay active in the local collectors' loop.  Even if you're just talking regularly, people get to know what machines others are looking for, and you eventually get that "hey, I have X, are you in a position to buy" email.

Neat machine.  I just discovered this in VPM a few weeks ago.

Frankly, I've never understood pinball for some reason.  But that's cool that you fulfilled a long-time search!  So what is it about Fathom that made it your dream machine?

Probably combination of theme, gameplay, and the artwork is incredible.  It really looks underwater with the playfield lit up.  And I have a soft spot for games with the early 80s robotic voice (like Berzerk).

Evil mermaids are almost as good as evil clowns.

Say, whatever happened to the Shadow pinball you had?

Still have it.  It's working and we use it but it is not shopped yet.
