Title: Problem with new Weiya chassis Warning PICS URGENT
Post by: mamerocks87 on March 14, 2007, 05:37:26 pm
I just got my new weiya chassis in for my monitor. I got to the 2628h model.  I connected everything and just tried it out...The color is good, however the sync is completely crazy. Im using a video amplifier going from my arcade vga to my monitor. I have used numerous monitors with my setup, so I dont think its anything to do with the computer ect. The monitor keeps scrolling vertically and I cant get it to stabilize. I have got it pluged up for com sync not seperate h and v. Im not quite sure whats going on. When I entered windows with the rolling screen the monitor shut off, then starting making a pulsing white spot in the middle of the crt and it was shutting on and off. Any ideas whats going on and how I can fix it? Thanks,

-Kyle

Suggest contacting the company you bought it from and tell them what happened first.

I will call Alva tommorow. I am reading 1.2 H ohms and 9.4 V. That is suppose to be fine with this chassis. Ken, do you have any ideas of what has probably happened?

Improper installation? Feeding it medium res when it needs standard res?

Was this a dedicated Wei-ya monitor or a conversion of some other monitor? If so, what was it?

It was originally a k7401 Wells. I know for a fact I was sending it standard res signal because of my arcade vga. As for the installation...Im almost positive I wired everything up right. I hooked up my crappy jen shinn chassis with no problem...Do you think my yoke and crt are fine after this accident?

Ken,

Here are the pictures of all my connections. Take a look and see if you see anything wrong. One question I have is the empty pole on the board next to the degauss poles. Any idea what is suppose to go there? I ignored it because I had seen empty poles on other boards I had....

The empty post next to the degauss connector appears to be a frame ground pin for a ground wire.

All your connections look ok.

Have you checked the chassis for shipping damage like cracks in the foil?

Some monitor chassis will go into shutdown mode if the horizontal hold control is way out of adjustment

Hmm. No noticable shipping damage..As for the ground pin next to the degauss...Is this a ground wire for the monitor?

Also about the h  hold...Theres one pot on the remote, is there another on the board I should be aware of? Thanks for the info Ken, and please excuse me for my newbieness at this.

Yes that's the ground strap that wraps around the tube itself then plugs into the board.

Ken,

As you can see in the picture w/ the tube and neck board....I have that ground strap connected right near the tube. Is that the correct place for the ground strap?  Also about my 1.1 ohms reading for my horizontal....I remember you saying that most chassis are for 1.5 ohm h. Could the low H ohms be the cause of my problem? I know that with gen shinn chassis, the 8 liners guy says to add a resistor to boost the ohms if it is less than 1.5. I know its not a jen shinn but maybe the same rule exist for the weiya?

You could try the resistor.

Good news,

I called alva today and there going to ship me another one out tommorow. I talked with the tech and told him again what my v and h ohms were. He said that they should be fine and that it should work.  I asked him if the 1.2 H ohms could be the problem and he said that the horizontal ohm requirement wasn't listed....helpful.. When I get this new chassis im going to take some pictures and I need everyone here to make sure its all together correctly.
couple of questions,

1.) My original reading of the ohms was around 8.3. The chassis I have fromw weiya is 9-15 ohms. I put a 1 ohm resistor in series on the green wire to boos the ohms to 9.4. Is  this a problem?

2.) Would the video amp Im using cause the problem? I have used it on 2 other monitors and it works fine. Is it possible I cant use the video amp on this chassis?

3.) Do I have the ground strap connected to the proper place in the bottom picture? Or do I need to move it next to the empty pin next to the  degauss post?

Thanks for the help in advance.

I have one of those boards... it looks like your wires to the neck are wrong.  I had to cut the 4 wire connector and spin each pair around.  My monitor was scanning backwards (from bottom right to top left).

The Wei Ya chassis dont work 1:1 with the wells monitor configuration... but they will.

Castle Steve,

Im a bit confused about your comment....Your saying that the connector from the yoke to the board is not correct?  If you could please describe a bit more in detail on what needed to be done to fix this.

The 4 wire connector Green,Yellow,Red, Blue.  It is keyed so it can only go on one way.  To make mine work correctly, I had to cut the connector in the middle and separate the yellow/green from the red/blue pair.  the red/blue pair connected the same... but I had to spin around the green/yellow pair.  Sorry I dont have a picture... i sold the monitor in a game.
