I recently ordered something from that vendor and was happy with their service.

Those monitors are used... I wonder what the risk is that you'll get one with a scratched up screen.

No cables included, so you'll have to figure out the power supply on your own.

The server room LCDs I've seen ran on standard PC power supply cables, if that helps.

Does anybody have experience ordering refurbs directly from Dell? I'm thinking that they would be a good option for my next project which will be a bartop for my boss.

Buying from Dell even if they are refurb's always seemed too expensive to me.  With Dell, you do get great service but you are paying a lot extra for the name "Dell" now-n-days.  I guess it depends what you want out of your computer.

The LCD in my current cabinet is a Dell refurb.  It works like new!

Well, I won't be laying down the cash, but I thought I'd save him a few bucks here and there.

I have bought a lot of machines from Dell, many refurb, many clearance models.  If you buy them at the right spot, rather than the entry level mom wants a PC but knows jack about them spot, you can get GREAT deals on rock solid hardware with the same level of service.

The best values at Dell for home use are the lowest end server hardware.  You can often get it stripped down (no/small hard drive/ram) for less than you would pay for a regular desktop.  You're getting a much beefier machine, though, with Dell pro server quality.

If you REALLY want an easy Jukebox build then buy a Fujitsu Stylistic C-500 tablet off ebay. It is an 8" touchscreen slab laptop (no keyboard), all you would really have to do it mount the sucker in something then put the stylus on a chain. They run about $200, but you could do your whole project in a couple minutes with one.

I have one here on my desk, they are pretty nice.

I agree with this very much. I've owned two workstations from Dell. We still have a Precision 410 that we bought 7 years ago. Not exactly a render box anymore, but it runs great for office stuff, photos, light CAD work, etc. My wife works from home and it's still her main machine.

The case fan just started doing a little squeaky thing, though. Cheap fix. That's pretty good for a system that has been on far more than it's been off these last 7 years.

Yep, my household primary machine is a 400SC.  It runs 24/7, is always busy, serves media to the house, has been up for 3 years straight without a single hardware problem.  There are entire forums dedicated to the low end Dell servers as home workhorses.
