Title: Best MAME version for this setup.
Post by: johnm160 on March 14, 2007, 01:16:11 am
I am looking for some advise on what version of MAME I should run on this setup.

Athlon 2600, 512k memory. running and ntlited version of xp

Going in a four player cab for fighting as well as other horozontal games. I don't recall what CHD games might be included in this mix. there will not be any shooters such as Area 51 on this machine and I know things like Gauntlet Legends will not play on anything.

Any help would be appreciated. I don't want to dump gigs of games on here only to have to delete them and put a different version back on.

Oh, and just to narrow the choices down a bit, my romset choices are:

.62
.69
.92
.108
.112

Thanks

John

MAME is processor dependent, not memory dependent.

http://www.stickfreaks.com/benchmark/search_all.php will give you an idea of what speed each game will get with differerent versions and sticks.

I use and XP 2800 myself.  You aren't going to have many games that won't work on that hardware that will work on a previous version, and if the ROMS work correctly, you can always run an older version of MAME to check speed provided the ROMS still work.

Personally, I would go with either 0.108 which gets you the later Golden Tee games and the new artwork format, or 112 which get you more games, but will be slightly slower.

Thanks for the reply Tiger, I will check that link out. I am trying out 113 now since I was able to just transfer it over the network. If that does not work, or works too slow I will be loading dvd's one at a time which is what I was trying to avoid.
