Title: mala issue
Post by: philby85 on March 13, 2007, 09:21:51 pm
Hi guy's,

I have been using mala for quite a while now and love it.
I had it iinstalled on my cab working fine. I am in the process of building a second cab and thought I would copy mala and mame across to the new pc from the existing working drive.

Mame will run but mala quits with an unknown error. When I run mala for the first time after re-installing again  it runs the setup and i provide all the info. It then collects bios info for a while and quits. Then when attempting to run it gets to the mala splash screens then quits with unknown error. I am running tinyxp. This works fine on my other cab no problems.

cheers

Ummm Guessing...  :dunno
* How did you transfer this stuff over? If by CD then all the files may be by default set to to read only which is bad. Select the whole folder un unselect that
* Try deleting mala.ini and starting again it may be looking for something that does not exist on your other PC
Don't worry you won't lose youe game lists and it does not take long to punch in some details

If probs persist provide more details I guess

Hey Loadman,

Thanks for the reply. I copied from HD to HD. Just seems funny even with a new install that mala wont work. Perhaps it's a rom thats corrupt? I mean it does fail when collecting bios info.

Might try installing roms again.

cheers mate

You should be able to do this, shouldn't you Loadman?  I was under the impression that neither mame nor mala writes to the system registry.  I haven't needed to try this yet, but I was more or less counting on this being possible...

It is possible . I have done it many times.

I did it just yesterday to test the latest LedWiz Plugin.

I copied my entire setup-up to a Win 2000 machine to see how it would react as there is not speech built into to it..

......Anyway my point is it worked fine.

I also have a copy of my Cab set-up on my main PC here to help me with testing and Forum Queries

So I am guessing here for a cause/ solution

MaLa doesn't write any values to the registry.

@philby85
Can you enablee the debug log and post the content here?

i can tell you this
i am setting up mala.  and i copied the mala folder and my roms folders to a laptop so i can mess with it at work and it works fine lists and all

( i have no roms on the laptop)

The only thing that dont work is loading a game, for obvious reasons.

Hi Guys,

installed xp pro new mala and mame still gets unexpected error. The only issue I can now think of this is an
old dual processor pc ( dual celeron)??

This is from the error log.

2007/05/17  21:15:51.40   Error: Object Class: TfrmMain, Object Function: ReplacePattern_selected, Exception Class: EAccessViolation, Exception Message: Zugriffsverletzung bei Adresse 004A189C in Modul 'MaLa.exe'. Lesen von Adresse 00000004

This is a known error:

This error occurs when no soundcard is installed or the current soundcard installation is corrupt. Please check your soundcard installation.

Swindus,

Would it be hard to trap that error?  I know it got me early on when using a test machine, and we see that question come up periodically.  Just curious.

Will do some investigation on this.

Edit: This error will never occur again.  :)

Just one stupid line in the source code ...

But there is still something wrong with the soundcard installation on philby85s computer.  ;)

A Pop up Window in English and German would be cool for that one

It seems to be a common mistake  :dunno

To be clear, it was a bug in MaLa. Now the audio functions in MaLa are completely disabled when no soundcard is installed, but it doesn't crash anymore.
