Title: WMP 11
Post by: SithMaster on March 13, 2007, 08:13:16 pm
Has anyone else been having issues with there install?  Im trying to listen to some midi and mp2 files and it wont let me.  It shows up fine in the playlist area and it shows a pause icon which i take it as it is trying to play it.

Ive tried adding the file types to the association list but it keeps removing them.  Would a clean install mean id lose my playlists and settings?

Thanks.

If you aren't getting an error when the files load up and the little progress bar is moving across then they ARE playing.  Check your master volume control in windows and make sure sw synth is turned up as midi files have their own volume adjustment.

Mp2 files?  Surely you jest.  Seeing as how they are ancient and nobody uses them it might be that wmp 11 doesn't support them natively anymore.  Download a mp2 codec and they shoudl work.

To answer your question.... you can export your playlists to files and load them after a re-install but your settings will be nuked.

I had bad luck with WMP11.  I installed it, but when I tried to play any of the 720p WMV trailers on microsoft's website the CPU usage would jump to 100%.  I uninstalled WMP11 and went back to 10 and now my CPU usage on the same file is 40-50%.  Video files embedded in webpages also were messed up with WMP11.  The video wouldn't resize correctly so I'd only see about 2/3 of the video (unless I expanded it to fullscreen).

Never had a problem with files not playing though.  I'd suggest uninstalling WMP11.  When you use the add/remove programs button to remove it, it asks if you want to downgrade to the previous version.

WMP keeps asking me if I want to upgrade and I keep telling it no.  I remember when WMP 10 first came out, I had a ton of problems with it, and I don't feel like going through the same thing again with 11.

why on earth was your music collection in mp2 format??  mp3 has been prevalent forever now.... I don't even remember the last time I saw an mp2 file.

You say that like it means something.  Its still full of bugs, just like WMP 10 was when the first official release came out.
