Title: WG 19K4601 problem
Post by: fa001 on March 12, 2007, 08:35:52 pm
I am getting a blank screen. There is an initial light and the neck glows but I can not get any image on the screen.  I can not find a schemetics for the 4601 only later models. I tried to follow Randy Fromm's flowchart but it deadends at "Is the CRT heater glowing?"

Any help?

When you turn the screen control up, does the screen get whiter?

No, the screen control makes no difference.

Have you capkitted it yet?

Could be that simple.

It's also likely that the "black level" pot (a.k.a. brightness) on the video interface board is shot (hairline break internally). If you buy your capkit from Zanen Electronics, it includes a new black level pot.

OK, I will operate. Cap kit on order and when I do that I will also reflow the solder joints. That should be a step forward.

But I do have one simple question, when I am testing the monitor for basic function should I be able to adjust the screen control to get a raster image or white screen without any game signal applied? Or does the monitor require a signal to light up at all.  :dunno

all analogue type monitors should display a raster without signal applied and the correct amount of adjustment on the screen volts.
i have had faults like yours but only on later monitors and i don't think it would apply to your monitor.
you seem to have the same fault as the other wg4000 thread which means this must be a reasonably common problem but i cannot say for sure as the last time i worked on this type chassis was in the mid 1980's.
do your screen flash when you disconnect power?

Well, now I have set it aside waiting for the cap kit.  I remember that I did get a light flash when it was turned on but do not remember if I got one when it was powered off.
