I won't watch any sports. But I will play volleyball. So I voted OTHER.

I'm pretty much a martial arts guy...
Especially those involving sword fighting like iaido, iaijutsu and kenjutsu.

What, golf doesn't score it's own category???  I can't be the only one with an addiction to golf and arcades, can I?   ;D  Anyway, went with football which is pretty much a tie anyway.

It's always interesting to see who indicates that their favorite sport is something they actually PLAY versus those who say something they only watch on TV.

BTW, I voted football, which I played myself for a long time and just stopped playing semipro last year.

Motocross. Stick and ball sports put me to sleep.

The poll said spectator, so I said baseball.

Participation sports would be "other". I like bowling and I used to play golf.

Yep.  I think golf being OTHER is going to really skew the poll.

Your custom title makes sense now.

Heh.  My title came from a comment I made during the last Presidential election, IIRC.  Something about a Kerry vote entitling the voter to a free kick in the genitals and volunteering to administer the reward.

Then you should have voted for Other (Rochambeau).

Rochambeau is Rock, Paper, Scissors.  It was only a kick in the nuts on South Park.

Tennis here.  Another one that's probably popular enough to merit its own category.

OTHER.... MMA  (UFC - PRIDEFC - BODOGFIGHT - KOTC).

I choose other.  My favorite sport to watch at least is MMA(Mixed martial arts...UFC, PRIDE, IFL etc)

I also enjoy football, basketball, volleyball(2v2 beach, not the team court stuff) as well.

Pro Football is definitely is tops for my spectator sports, with Tennis second. As for participation sports, Mountain Biking is really the only one I do anymore, and not competitively.

Fine, I guess I get boxing all to myself.

Hey Loki, where is it that you watch sword stuff (they ask what you like to watch the most)? I did Iaido for around a year, and while fun, I would get tired of watching Iai Kata form all the time. But Kendo would be fun to watch.

I don't like watching Golf, but I like playing it.
And I'd probably watch professional Go if they televised it over here like they do over East.

Internet and in some rare cases they are in martial art demo's on eurosport... I guess it's not really popular in the mainstream :(

I voted for football, even though all these rules on top of rules are really making the games harder and harder to watch.

Anyone ever watch the NFL Network, they have this "head ref" on every so often trying to explain bad calls on the Field and he always seems to have a good explanation for whatever it was that was seen as a bad call.

It's hard to question the games rule maker when he can just make up a new rule on the spot when questioned.

This guy will never say one of his guys made a mistake no matter what happened or is on film.  :banghead:

This is not factual.  The rules and any additions to it each year are made by the competition committee.  The ACTUAL problem is your second part:

Quote

This guy will never say one of his guys made a mistake no matter what happened or is on film.  :banghead:

That's the problem, and something pro refs get paid pretty well to get right.  If these guys can't get it right after getting paid what they do for their weekend job, then fire 'em and let 'em go back to their history teaching job or dentistry practice or whatever else these clowns do for their real job.  All I know is that they laid out in an article somewhere about what these guys get paid to do for 16 weekends out of the year, and it's a JOKE that even replay challenges hasn't fixed.

Agreed on the spectator comment... I can't skate to save my life... that might be why I like watching Hockey so much.  I'll watch pretty much any sport and be able to tolerate it or even get a little into it.

As far as participation, I'm a big tennis player and bowler.  I "golf", I put that in quotes because I am very very bad at it.

If you are talking about The Head of officiating on NFL network, then you haven't watched him often enough. They have him on once a week during the regular season. and I have regularly seen him admit the officials have made mistakes. Doesn't change the outcome of the game, but most sane people realize officials are only human, and are bound to screw it up sometimes. Given the nature of the rules these days, I'm surprised they don't botch calls more often.
Title: Re: POLL: Favorite Sport
Post by: ChadTower on March 16, 2007, 09:07:12 am

The officials tend to become paralyzed on uncertain calls.  They group up and try to make the call that will take the least heat... it's sad to watch.  All in all, though, they are human and they make mistakes, but over the course of a full season every team gets enough in their favor and enough against them that it evens out to become irrelevant.

Yay for curling! I only get to see that when the winter Olympics are on, but for some reason I find that fascinating. Looks like it would be fun to play.

I also have an anchor on a rope in the barn that I do the Hammer Throw with sometimes.

I need you to stand at the front of a jai alai court for a few minutes.

And yours is the usual commentary from a person who isn't any good at such sports.  Tell "your team" to come up with a better reply, since your statement means "wrestling" IS a "sport" ::)

Ehm that's a weird reversal??? Do you really think your statement follows from that?

More importantly, you DO play with another guys balls in wrestling ...  ::)

No more weird than saying ball-related games aren't "much of a sport".  Soccer, something the majority of Europe follows and have KILLED people about, is most definitely a sport, something I can freely admit even if I don't care a whit about watching, playing or going to see - ever.

Football - for the guy who believes racing an automobile IS a sport, and football wouldn't be much of a sport, take the two athletes and switch them around.  I'd be willing to bet that they'd BOTH agree the others' sport is tougher than they thought, and at times, pretty damn frightening.

The idea that you play with someone's balls while wrestling is simply idiotic.  Either the "fake" wrestling, standard high-school/college type of wrestling, Greco-Roman, whatever - if you consider that "playing with another guy's balls", you've put as much effort into following what that sport is about (and knowledge of it) as I've put into soccer (as well as auto racing of any kind).

Lastly, while I can't ever fathom watching auto racing of any kind, I'm not about to make a stupid statement like "it's not much of a sport".  I could have said something as equally mindless about auto racing such as "since my grandma is able to drive around in a car, that doesn't make auto racing much of a sport".  Yeah, I pointed out wrestling, because you DON'T use a ball, you DON'T "play around with another guy's balls", and it IS a sport.  Follows perfectly since I chose to actually use an example instead of "that's not a sport, and it's because of some (half)witty rejoinder I never put much thought into".
