Title: trackball question
Post by: btp2k2 on March 09, 2007, 02:29:31 pm
I am trying to find a replacement ball for an Imperial 3 inch track ball.

The only place I have seen that sells replacement balls is Happ.

I sent them a quick email asking if there would be any compatibility problems using one of their replacement balls in an Imperial.

Their response was a pretty blunt..."No, it won't work"

Now, my question is this....is there really that much of a difference in manufactures that a ball from another company won't work or is this Happ just saying "F you....buy one of our complete trackball units"? I mean....it's a three inch ball for God sakes....how much different can they really be?

Head over to Groovy Game Gear they have the replacements as well as the upgrade kit for the ICE-T Trackball. Here is a link. (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=74)

I am not really interested in the Ice balls....they are cool and all, but I really want just a solid blue ball to match my control color scheme.

Right now I have a control panel with blue graphics, joysticks with blue batons, and blue pushbuttons, matching blue t-molding and a big ole shiny white trackball. Kinda sticks out!

Randy at groovy game gear has solid white balls for sale that he takes out when they build the full electric ice trackballs..... You can dye those a different colour using clothing dye....  It works really well.

Just take the white ball and drop it in a pan with blue Dylon Dye and boil it for a few hours. The colour will change to quite a good permanent blue.

Update to this....I sent Happ a reply asking what the difference is in balls and why it would not be compatible.

Their lack of response tells me exactly what I suspected. They just want to sell me a full unit for 100+ instead of a replacement ball for 30. You know, with guys like Divemaster and Andy over at Ultimarc, who needs Happ? Screw them.

There are three places to look for things before going anywhere else.

1. Buy/Sell/Trade forum
2. Groovy Game Gear
3. Ulitmarc

Then you can go to eBay or other sites to find what you need.

Big question is why you were talking to Happ in the first place ... they aren't good at selling to the individual, that's why they have resellers.
