Someone rang me a while back and said they had found 6 cocktail machines in a barn.
They were empty and had been sitting there for 20 years.
So I got him to send me a pic.
:censored: :censored: Was what I bleated upon seeing said cabinets.
I would have passed on the deal but he said he will send them to me free and the deal would be for me to restore one and send it back and I would keep the other 5.
Now I hate to see a cabinet of any description rot in some old barn. So I agreed.
I came home about 10pm one night to find 6 ugly black cabinets sitting on my front lawn and it was about to rain.
A few deep breaths and nasty thoughts of kids who picked on me at school and I carried them 1 by 1 , 30 metres to my workshop.
They have sat there for the past month getting in my way so yesterday and today I got the worst one out and hit it.
It was caked full of chicken, bird, rat and mouse ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- and about 1/4 of dust.
Disgusting. :censored:
Anyway, here is the results after replacing 1 end and the whole top section.
(It was the top right cabinet in the pic above.)

Its not quite finished but only another day and it will be done.
Just some wiring, screwing things down and fitting the legs which have now been chromed.
I guess it has been worth it now after seeing the results.
NEXT!!!

I may not be around soon.
Probably contracted H5N1 from this resto :laugh2:
-
Wow!!! You did an amazing job on the restoration. I normally don't like those style cabs but I'd take that one any day. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
-
Very nice! Is that a 19" or 13" monitor in there? Arcade monitor or PC monitor? MAME or actual Galaga PCB (with the extra button i'm guessing MAME?)...
I'd be impressed had you worked on it a couple weeks let alone a couple days.
Amazing bro!

Beautiful work as always ...
:applaud:
-
Sweet job on the restore. Looks like a brand new unit. :applaud: I hope you take precautions on the other 5 cabs. That :censored: can be really hazardous to your health. :scared Worse even than MDF dust.
TTFN

Wow, incredible work! I have a broken 720 cabinet in my basement right now with a bunch of mouse poop under the coin box, so you're really inspiring me to get started cleaning it up and fixing it. I would love to see some in progress pics.
-
Beautiful work. You really make great looking cabs. I would never have thought it possible with the caked on feecies. Hope you are kidding about the virus. That type of thing can kill you.
-
I figured out the perfect game for you to run on these cabinets:

Looks great Spacies. Good work. Your an inspiration to farmer arcades everywhere.

Great game and would work well with the two button layout.

I once got a cabinet that had been used as a cat litterbox... Litterally...: :-X

Wow, that looks great! Guess I need to shaddup about the condition of the cab I'm restoring... :notworthy:
-
I would have considered that impossible and a complete waste of time. I've spent time on the farm as a kid and have seen the expansion (due to dampness) and rot that wood goes through. Especially stored under such an extended period. I'm very impressed. That's a great looking job.
-
Well, judging from what is directly behind and to the left of the cabinets, he could have just driven that building away. :)

Thanks, I don't normally like them either. But I had a brainwave of contersinking the glass 4mm into the top and laminating the remaining corners like a Defender cocktail to give it a whole new look. Now the t-molding is flush with the top of the glass and the laminate. I worked out well.

Thanks Frizzle. Its a 17" PC screen. It was designed for a 13" but I didn't have any so thats why I replaced the whole top section. The 17" is a great size in a vertical cocktail this shape.
I am a person who one day is lazy and plays games, mucks around with art work, planning, gathering materials etc and the next day I don't stop 'til its done. Its a good balance, lol.
Beautiful work as always ...

Thanks Cheffo, maybe that Joust cocktail soon huh?!

Yeah mate, I always 'cover up'. LOL. I was a painter by trade so keeping the dust and fumes out was always a priority. No different when working on these machines. Thanks for your concerns.

Don't be scared of keeping up to your elbows in ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---. :laugh2: Just vacuum the black rice out of there and get to it man!
I did take progress pics on my cell phone ( 2.0 megapixel) but for some reason they come up as a blank box :dunno
When I do one of the others I was use a real camera. Thank you also for your kind words.

I really should have taken a pic of the inside of this cabinet. But when I thought about it I already had my respirator on and had built up the courage to clean it. Waterblasting probably would have been an option. :censored:

LOL. Dude, thats a hard game. Kinda need crazy eyes to keep your eyes on the eggs. And 4 hands too.
Great game and would work well with the two button layout.
 Ken.

Oh ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---. I just read your thread. I know how you feel mate.
*grumble grumble - varmits - grumble grumble - shotgun*

I doubt there is worse than what this one was. Get too it! Look at what can become of these cabs.

I know. When I pulled off the t-molding and one end crumbled, I was about to smash it and start another.
It is made from particle board which crumbles like Weet-Bix. I am glad now I didn't scrap it.
A little bit of love and she is a real looker now.
I thinks its a case of Mutton dressed up as Lamb. :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:
Well, judging from what is directly behind and to the left of the cabinets, he could have just driven that building away. :)
Maybe he should have been driven them straight to the local landfill?
Nah, just kidding.
Any old cab is worth saving. Its the history that makes them special.

You guys are too kind.
And I am glad to be sharing this hobby with you lot.
Righto, family time.
Have a great weekend

Huh? >:D

So...are you looking for volunteers to come take some off of your hands? Certainly no single person needs 6 cocktail tables. :)
-
Nice one Frizzle. :laugh2:
Numbski. I am in New Zealand. They probably wouldn't make it through quarantine for shipping with all the crap on them, lol!
-
You did a damn fine job that looks awesome ! :o :o :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
-
exemplary work as usual, spacies! bloody kiwis ;)
but guys. be careful with the sort of dust you could be breathing from the faeces. i remember seeing a documentary where some people had contracted anthrax or the plague or something else that is quite rare because they had breathed in dust from rat droppings under their kitchen sink. so dust masks everyone!

Well, shoot. Somehow I got the idea you were in the US (in Wisconsin).
Where on earth did I get that idea? :dizzy:
I do know of one man that might like to hear from you - Krool@ EmuChrist. Or Brad. Either one might be interested in at least helping out.
-

That'd be me ;D
There's gonna be another SuperAuctions coming to State Fair Park soon. If you're in WI, stop by and you should find something you can make your special project
-
Beautiful cabinet, but I'm disappointed I didn"t get to see the worlds first arcade cab made from chicken $%^&.

Heh, not American. Hope to make it there someday, maybe an expo or something similar.
Might also swing by Pixelhuggers place and build his freakin cab, :laugh2:

Hardly much left of the original huh? LOL.
-
Yeah, I'd say not much left of the original. Amazing work and thanks for the WIP pic.
-
Thats a nice pic from a phone - what kind of phone is it?
-
RAZR V3x
2 megapixel. Some photos are around 600kb.

:dizzy:
-
Really nice job!
That recessed glass idea worked out well.
-
Sweet. Nice Job.
-
Simply love it... :applaud:
Definately need to document the next build....

Just had a flashback from working in games trying not to pass out from the cat urine smell...... wait! That was last week. And the week before that. And.....
For giving you cabs in such a bad state, you should restore the cab for him and put artwork on it from some completely inane and not-very-well-known game, like Pooyan!
