I have pretty specific ideas about how I want the image to look. I would like to do it myself, and I think I could learn something like Illustrator quickly (I have a background in computer imaging), but I don't have it. Maybe someone knows of a free or shareware program that is similar?
But I'm thinking there might be someone on here who would like to do it for me. My ideas aren't very complicated, I don't think it would be a very difficult image to create.
Thanks,
Wade

Email or PM me with an outline or sketch of your idea. If I have time, I'd be happy to help you out.

Is your overlay related to street fighter or marvel..?? I could help you.. :).
Drop me a line and I will hook you up with somethin.. ;) (if you cant find anyone else)

Ever tried The Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32/)?

If there's a lot of interest in custom CP overlays, I'm thinking of laying out some basic designs that could be easily modifiable within Photoshop or Illustrator. That way people without a design background or graphic resources could get professional looking vector art for their CP's. Has this already been done that anyone knows about? I am talking crazy talk? ::)
And yes hevn, I'd be happy to help if my schedule permits.

Pixelhugger: I think that's a fabulous idea!
AceTKK was gracious enough to send me his overlay psd file on dialup no less to my dsl account. Kudos to you AceTKK..you're tops in my book!

Thanks for the offers guys! But I'm thinking it's going to take a lot of revisions to get the overlay "just right", so I'm going to try to find a software package that can do vectors, and draw it myself.
Does the Gimp have vector functions?
Also, I think Pixelhugger's idea of premade images is a great idea. If I had the borders I wanted around my joysticks and buttons, I could do all the rest with Paint Shop or Photoshop.

Just go to "exploded view" under the product description. Happs' site is fantastic for research/planning. :D
Here's an extended thought on the premade CP layouts. Maybe - and of course it depends on my technical ability w/Flash and Director, but maybe - it would be possible to create a Layout Your Own Control Panel page on my site to allow users to place and move vector gfx around custom sized CP backgrounds. Think - Mr. Potatohead meets BYOAC. Would be a gargantuan amount of work, but sure would be cool. Users could then output the final result as an EPS for printing....along with a black and white line art template for tracing out panels and laying out holes to line up w/GFX. Of course this only makes sense to do if a considerable number of people would be helped by it. Hmmmmmm. Thinking out loud. Possible to have others upload their custom vector art to include in a massive vectorlicious library of skinnable CP goodness. Curse my day job responsibilities! Curses! :'(
