Title: pixel lines or scan lines?
Post by: shorthair on March 06, 2007, 09:50:34 pm
I remember the old games having horizontal lines.  At least the horizontal monitor ones did, though I thought the vertical ones did, too. I notice that newer game monitors have vertical lines.  What am I seeing in each of these cases?

You answered your own question in your title......

You are seeing scanlines on arcade monitors..... and pixel lines on LCD monitors.

I meant CRTs in both cases.

CRT's don't have vertical lines...... unless you have one rotated to vertical orientation.

Whether on or off, in newer games with CRTs, I can see vertical lines in the display.  They're either lit or not, respectively, but I can see them. And they're in horizontal position.  I see these in TVs, too, even a 15-year-old one I have sitting here.
