Why should we tell you what to do.  Choose the OS that you feel comfortable with.  Choosing an OS isn't something someone should tell you to do.  If you don't know what a command prompt is I suggest staying away from DOS and Linux.  If you want to run Linux, OSX, etc then do it.

Now there may be other reasons, your OS choice is limited, but you haven't exactly stated any reasons.

According to an article I read on HardOCP (http://consumer.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTI5OCwxLCxoY29uc3VtZXI=), Ubuntu is the easiest Linux distribution to use at this time.

ReactOS may not be stable enough for use in a cab, try it and see.

You should look into Slackware - extremely stable and simple. Since you will be running a front end, you don't need the extra stuff that is out there...

try zenwalk, it's based on slackware. there is a zenlive cd version. both run great with a p3 128mb ram.

Kymaera is an excellent front end, but it's not complete.

1) it had 15KHz support hacked into it, but AFAIK it doesn't work.

2) I've never heard of anyone that has it running in Linux, so I'd be really curious to see how that goes.
