Well, step one is complete. I've loaded an OS (Windows 98 SE) on an old computer and got it up and running again. I'm actually posting using it.
Next thing to get done is load and configure the software on it. I plon on using Mamewah, Mame, and some sort of script that will automatically launch Mamewah upon start. Anyone know how to do that? Also, anyone know how to get Mamewah to work vertically?
I'm doing this for my brother, he's a Pac Man junkie, and I want to get it done before I move to Phoenix in June.

Go to the wiki there is a whole write up on booting directly into mamewah. It is under "how to hide windows". It is actually really easy to do. Just replace explorer.exe with mamewah.exe, but their a lot of other hiding tips and instructions well worth the read!

thanks for the tip... I should have known to look there first, lol.

Well, since Mamewah won't display vertically, I decided to with GameLauncher (found at the wiki). Very easy to setup, I have it so that when widows starts, it starts. Now I just have to tweak a few more things software side, and I can start drawing up some plans.

Finished the monitor frame... not painted or sanded yet, needed to check the fit. Have to square off the cut out for the monitor, its not straight.

Same pic, no flash.

Are you de-casing that HP? Otherwise, that will be one BIG bartop.

I've been playing with G.L. a little too. I love it's simple look. I figured out how to modify the game names to whatever you want (pretty good for my lame --I'm attempting to get by the auto-censor and should be beaten after I re-read the rules--) if you want to know.
1 question. How did you get it to go vertical?

In the game launcher config file, there is an option to display vertically. You can open the file with notepad and change it. How do you change the game names?

OK. I must be missing something obvious here. I got GL to change its list to vertical. Now how do you get the games to go vertical also?
-
Figured it out. Now does anyone know how to stretch the image of the game to fill the entire screen?
I just realized I hi-jacked your post HarumaN, sorry 'bout that.

This is how I do it... from the mame.ini file:
### Mame CORE video options ###
norotate 0
ror 0
rol 0
autoror 0
autorol 1

Yup. Thats what I did too. By the way does your set-up have a little log-on mame screen? Now I'm trying to figure out how to rotate that....

I'm following this, about to embark on my first bartops soon. Keep us posted as you construct the cab. :)

progress pic. I hope to have this thing completed by Friday.

marquee goodness... although the blue looks washed out in this photo, but it really is quite blue.
-
A big fat strip of duct tape from the inside, along the edge of the marquee will keep the light from "leaking out". Great progress.

Good idea. That leak isn't visible with the lights on, but definately is clear with lights out. The marquee is actually a piece of metal with Pac-Man cut out of it. I took a piece of clear acrylic, sanded both sides, and placed that behid the punched out letters. If gives off a nice blue glow. I used a cold cathode tube to supply the light.
Heres another pic with the flash on. I should have this done today, as long as it doesn't rain.
