Title: Anyone using a WG D9100 monitor?
Post by: Chris on April 08, 2003, 11:20:48 am
I have a question for anyone using a Wells-Gardner D9100 monitor (OSCAR?  Don't you have one of these?):  With its high dot pitch and scan lines, are vector games playable, or do they look horrible?

Thanks!

I was curious about this monitor myself.

Which would be a better option as far as visual quality of newer games goes.

WG 19 inch9100
or a Trinitron 21 inch monitor

Im debating on the 2 and i cant decide which i should get.

Just to take the thread in a different direction...

Since I have been using the D9100 in my cabinet I have found that I am actually playing the games a little better.  On past projects I had gone the 27" route thinking that bigger was better, but perhaps that isn't always the case especially if you are a "classics" fan.  I'm starting to think that having the smaller 19" monitor helps keep you more focused on the game.

Take Robotron, for example.  So much action is happening on the screen, and it just seems easier to keep focused when it is all right in front of you without having to rely so much on peripheral vision.  My Robotron scores have steadily increased since I have gone from a 27" to a 19" monitor.

But playing MvsC on a 19" can't compare to a 27", so I guess it mostly depends on what kind of games you play more often.  Another bonus to a 27" is that vertical games are very close their original 19" size, too.  However, even that said, since I have been play testing my cab for the last couple of weeks, I'm sure I will stay with the D9100 in my cabinet now instead of switching it out later as I had originally intended.

Could one of you guys help me out?  I just got my WG  today. (hey I know I hate hybirds, but I LOVE a 75$ monitor  ;D)  And it didn't come with a cord.  The pdf docs don't give the power pinouts.  Do any of you guys have this info?  If not I'll just buy a stock cord from wg.

Thanks,
HAC

Thanks man.  I actually did find the pinouts on another schematic for another monitor.  I would have posted so but I've spent a great deal of time "testing".  :)

I got my 9100 last Friday and haven't had much time to play around with it. I did set it up quickly with my cocktail cab to make sure it worked.

It couldnt do anything with the signal coming from the PC (it was set up to run on an old Popeye monitor), so I went through AdvCfg again and set it up as a PC monitor. All the test recolutions/rates came up perfectly, all they needed was a little centering (I'm using an Ati Rage Pro card).

Is this the best way to set up the monitor? It gives an incredible display, but looks nothing like the old low-res Popeye monitor that I was kinda getting used to.

How'd you guys set yours up?
