Ok, I'll start w/ computer specs:
VIA EPIA MII-10000 Motherboard (http://www.epiacenter.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=36&page=1)
512 MB PC2100 Ram
80GB Hard Drive
Using all on-board stuff (video/sound/etc)
Running MaLa, with only about 13-14 system processes running in the background. (Using a stripped down version of windows)
Here's the problem:
Some games (Double Dragon, MK3, and other "higher end" games) are REALLLLY SLLLLLOOOOWWWW when I try to play them. This makes me think it might be a video issue, and I'm planning to upgrade the video card. (only 1 pci slot on the board, so it has to be PCI)
The other issue im having is in many games (including something as simple as Pac-Man) my sound "skips" a little....I'll try to illustrate.
Instead of getting a "BLEEEIP" im getting "BLEEELEEIPPIPP" It's not every time...but it is noticable, and annoying. Any suggestions on what may be causing it?
I'm hoping I do not need to swap out the motherboard...as the box this is going in is too small for most boards. But, I'll take any suggestions I can get.
Thanks!

The processor is fast on that board, but those are classic symptoms of a machine to slow for the version of MAME you're running. You didn't say which revision you're using, but if it's a new one, I'd try dropping back before looking for hardware issues.
Try .99 first, since nearly everything playable is in that version, but it is much leaner overall.

I am using 0112b...so i will definately try .99
thanks for the tip

Holy thread bump batman! Ok it's been 2 years since this was originally posted but I am having sound issues with the same mobo...
Sound gets garbled occasionally on many games, including the classics like Ms. PacMan. It is not continuously garbled, just "slips" sometimes...
Here are my specs:
Via M10000 Nehemiah @ 1ghz, 512mb RAM
VT8235 Southbridge using VIA Apollo CLE266 chipset
VT1616 audio codec
Running Windows "Tiny" XP SP3
Mame is BuddahMame .95
Any suggestions? This sound issue is starting to annoy me...!

Sorry to bump this again but any suggestions for improving my MAME audio with this VIA onboard sound?
This is in a bartop, so unfortunately there is no room to install a sound card... I tried a cheap USB sound adaptor but it didn't make a difference.

Try mame .92 - there was a big sound system rewrite at .93.

lower samplerate to 22 instead of default 44 in cfg/ini file

Sweet! The sample rate reduction to 22khz did the trick!! Would have never thought of that fix on my own- so much appreciated!
