Title: Mala sound events question
Post by: RyoriNoTetsujin on March 02, 2007, 02:08:03 pm
I searched around on this, but have had no luck finding even someone else with this same problem.

In mala, when I assign sounds to these events:

"Game list/menu movement"
"Game list/menu end reached"

... the sounds don't play on the game list at all.  They DO play when I bring up the options Menu (default button: 2) but not in a normal game list.  All the other sounds work as I imagine they should.  I'm using mala's tree structure, but I've tested it without the tree (single layout) and it still doesn't work.  I've also tried using layout-specific sounds as well as the general mala sound events, but even that didn't work.

Am I missing something?  Is this a feature that isn't fully implemented yet?  ???

Thanks for your time!

They have been working for a long time. It must be something you are doing wrong I guess  ;)

I have not heard of this type of problem before where some events work and others don't?  ???

Can you post some screen shots of your MaLa options screens  ;D

Well, I don't know if this will help, but I brought it back down to basics and it still doesn't work.

(I hope I attached those pics right!)

I went back to the standard Mala layout (no tree structure,) turned off layout specific sounds, and added just ONE wav to it, under "Game list/menu movement."  Using my full mame list, NO sound triggers when scrolling in the game list, but when the menu is up (last pic) the .wav triggers every time I scroll.

I'm really confused.   :banghead: This isn't a problem for anyone else?

EDIT: Egad... sorry about those file sizes...  :(

The only other thing I can think of is in:

options-gui-options (exceptions box)

You can skip MaLa doing certain things to make it scroll super fast...

There is a checkbox for Sounds in there

Oh man, that may be it... I think I turned all of those off - I don't think I even looked for a "sound" option there! ;D I won't be able to check until later tonight when I get home, but that's certainly something I haven't checked.  I'll let you know if that works!  Thanks!

Sure enough, loadman, you were correct!  Disabling "display delay" in Options->GUI->Options apparently kills the gamelist part of the "Gamelist/menu movement" and "Gamelist/Menu end reached" sound events.  I don't know if that qualifies as a bug, or just a peculiarity of mala.

Either way, problem fixed for now!  Many thanks!  :applaud:

Not a bug  ;)

Those checkboxes are put there to disable things (if you need to) to speed up scrolling.

Maybee they could be labled better I guess?

Glad you are happy   ;D

PS Look out for my updated EmuWave Plug-in that wil trigger random sounds
