Title: How can I use an image as my signature?
Post by: unclet on March 02, 2007, 11:32:48 am
I went into my Profile settings and can not find out how I can add an image as be my signature.   I currently have text as my signature (see below), but would like to replace this with an image .....

You do it just like linking to a pic in a post, except there is no button for it when you are doing that.

(http://insert picture address here)

As an example here is the text from my sig.......

Dr. Zoidberg: Bender, you said 'wink, wink' out loud.
Bender: No I didn't. Raise middle finger.

edit- you are gonna have to quote me to see what I have done here. Sorry, I am an idiot.  :banghead:

I wish people would not spread this information around.  Picture signatures are obnoxious.  It's like asking someone how to put a flashing banner advertisement on their web page.  It can be done, but it'd sure be a whole lot cooler if it wasn't.

Picture signatures are obnoxious.
I bet if I replaced my sig with a picture of a gay man you wouldn't be bitching.

Also remember if saint finds it obnoxious he reserves the right to change it to something else... that amuses him.... that you might not see right away before hundreds of other people do...  >:D

I thought the only people who referred to themselves in the third person were athletes?  ;D

I like referring to myself in the 3rd person.  Ever since Alex (I think that's his name) and the hot 8 million dollar girl on Grey's Anatomy were doing it all through an episode my wife and I have switched into 3rd person mode every now and then.

I'm not sure if he's talking about grammar or threesomes.  That's probably the best way to get himself into the third person I can think of.

Sorry about resurrecting an old thread, but I was wondering about graphics in signatures. I'm seeing more and more these days.

I guess it's okay if it's links to the member projects, but shouldn't there be a limit on the size of those graphics? I mean, not everyone has 27" widescreen monitors, as an example if griffindodd ever adds two projects to his signature it will take two lines to display on my monitor.

Another extreme example is Felsir, who uses a really huge and heavy graphic (gamekingblue.png, 132.01 kB, 510x230) in his signature. It's not displayed at 510x320 but it's still too big in the signature, not to mention that using a huge file to be resized by the browser is not a good idea in general.

Maybe we could settle on standard size? How about an existing web banner size, such as 120x60 pixels? Griffindodd's graphics are 176x47, I'm not sure where he took those dimensions, unless that's the dimensions saint decided upon?

We could go up to 240x120 pixels for the source image but resized to 120x60 for the display, if saint wants to support HiDPI monitors.

It it works for you, you can disable signatures completely. You just need to go to your profile settings, Look and layout, and check the box that says don't show signatures.

That's one option, however I like to be able to associate members with their projects. Sometimes you see a new project by someone, you're thinking "that guy is insane". Then you see his other projects in his signature, remember about them and then go "oh yeah, if anyone can pull it off this new project, it's him".  ;)
