So I admit that my control panel design is a little unconventional. It was geared more towards asthetics than function. But it's done.
Anyhow, these are all the buttons I have on my cab. Nothing else except a power button in back. How would you wire this up? Trackball takes two mouse buttons. Maybe the two white ones? Should I double-wire those to the ipac? Which one should be my shift button?
I'll be using MAME and a few console emulators.
Maybe...
1start 1coin
S 1 2 3
1 4 5 6
S = dedicated shift button. Or should I go with a default on the 1start for the shift. That leaves this extra button. Hmmmm....

I would have both a dedicated player 1 button and player 2 button. I would put some decals on them so you know which one is which. (The ones from MikeDeuce would be swell)
I would make the buttons on the joystick work for mouse.
I would also use the shift function of player 1. Thats all you need really. 1+2 = quit game. You can also setup other shifts to control volume, exit front end, etc.

you just wanted to show off your spiffy new CP! nice job (",)

heh heh... no, the real showing off comes later, when it's playable. ;) (This is my first cab, and I'm trying to get feelers on what most veterans would do with this setup.)
Lew, I like the decal idea, but these are the 24mm buttons, so Mike's decals would not fit. I'm curious why you'd have the 2nd white button as a 2 player start. Primarily, this will be a one player cab, so wouldn't it be more useful to have that one mapped as a coin button? I could shift a 2p start for the times when that's needed.
As for the double-wiring, are there any drawbacks? It seems if I just make sure no emulator uses mouse buttons, then they'd only kick in when in Windows. Seems like it'd work.
Thanks!

how is the trackball being held to that plexi without screws?

Thats the beauty of his decals - you can order smaller ones. Or - you could have them made yourself.
I just like being able to do a 2 player game - hotseat style. It's sitting up there just looking like it should be a player 2 button.
I don't think there is any issues with double wiring - seems like it would work to me too.

Remember pacman, p1 and p2, but only one person at a time. Unless U don't intend on a 2nd player at all, adding a p2 looks good. Hiding that in a shift command make thing a bit confusing for gameplay function, but that could just be me.

Yeah, I suppose for some games that's true, but I was thinking it would be more confusing for 1player games to always have the coin button shifted.

oh... coin up. I forgot about that. Yeah - a dedicated coin up button is a good idea. Player 1, player 1 coin. shift functions for everything else. :)
