WTF is this crap? Anyone?? ::)
-
Teenagers are dumbasses. It has always been true and will always be true. Some grow out of it. Some just pretend to grow out of it. Some never do.
-
Are you asking what emo is? I'm confused.
It's just the latest music/fashion trend that all "cool" teenagers try to aspire to nowadays in an effort to be different. Just like previous punk trends.... or goth... or disco... or whatever....
What are you actually asking here?
-
its not all that new..
-
By the time something like that comes to the attention of the adults it's already on the way out.
-
Is it just me or is every generation worse then the last?
Now vampirism is cool...
-
Is it just me or is every generation worse then the last?
It is just you. That thought means you're getting old.
-
Damn, I'm only 25 and I'm a geezer now. Why? Because I've never heard the phrase "EMO" until now. Kids have been dressing this way since I was in school. We just considered it a nerdy off-shoot of the "alternative", or "freak" style fads. (I was a freaker by the way. Airwalks, Courderoy, rock band t-shirts, bangs tucked behind my ears, wallet chain attached to sticker covered wallet...I had it all man :laugh2:)
Anyways, I had to yahoo EMU to see what it was (am I like the only person in the world that prefers yahoo to google? :dunno)
http://www.sykospark.net/emo/appearance.html
By the way, that music video with the EMO dudes doing a synchronized treadmill dance kicks ass!
-
I thought emo kids cut themselves? Where they you go you yahooed EMU not EMO. ;)
And im not getting old. Seriously i cant be i still like immature things like cartoons and stuff. or am i...
I dont get it a freaker sounds like a normal person to me.
-
I watch Tom + Jerry all the time. I'm ancient.
I was fortunate that the style when I was in high school was ripped and oldass looking. It helped out those of us that would have dressed that way anyway.
-
Hey...I like their music, these Emo kids. They can dress however they want, doesn't bother me.

That's funny, cos between the two I'd rather be the Emo restroom guy.
-
That's funny, I cosplay the Emo restroom guy.
-
its not all that new..
No kidding. Welcome to 2001.
-
Don't dress like a homosexual if you aren't one :P
-
Damn. Now what do I do with all those buttless chaps?

It's some news story about it. So funny. Nice hat on the sheriff. ::)

Not even close. The roots of emo music, which started the trend go back quite a bit more than 2001. It was only in the last few years that every teenage kid decided to latch onto it. It's like any other fad.... punk music was around for decades before every kid in the US said they were "punk" and wore buttons on their jackets and what have you.
I actually like some music that is considered "emo" although I despise using the term emo. It's also important to note that emo music has evolved recently to match the trend instead of the other way around. Current "emo" music consists of whiny singers with pretty poor lyrics, while the original trend was a considerable change from that. Not to mention that most would argue that emo started with emocore music, which has a VERY different flavor than current emo bands.

"It's a fashion", "It's to show how cool you are when you cut yourself".
Great when you have real problems and your parents or people around you say it's a fashion or something.
Thing is, when you think dark, you dress dark... not the other way around.
You are more attracted to fashions/groups like this when you are an emotional kid.
Heck... I still wear black only :P
-
All the guys around here that are EMO wear girls jeans. You can't get anymore gay than that.
-
My neice came over with her "boyfriend" the other day, I swear to god, I thought he was a girl, and that she was going to come out of the closet at my house :)
Why do they profess to being different and unique when they all dress the same, have the same hair, etc.. ?
Damn I'm old..Never thought I'd be the one mumbling about those "damn kids"...
-
(http://mywebpages.comcast.net/duncanblack/muppets.jpg)
Eh? What'd he say?
He said you're old!
I'm bold? Well, thank you young man! Now get a real haircut!
-
When I read EMO the first thing that came to my mine was...
...which is just as gay as the "style"!
-
i only learnt about emos just last year. until then i thought it was pretty cool that young uns nowadays were reviving goth fashion! emos kinda dress like goths but have no other identifying thing. theres nothing to say why you are an 'emo'. bloody ridiculous. if you are a goth, or a punk or whatever theres a fairly clear definition of what its about. read wikipedia for info on emos- youll be none the wiser for it (",)
im worried about our economy with surly emo kids coming into the work force :badmood:
damn wipper snappers! get offa my lawn!
-
It's the paradox of youth. Most kids strive to prove their individuality by joining a group. :laugh2:
-
kids have no redemming qualities.
emo people wont get jobs anywhere but hot topic or at music stores. If they are just acting the emo part then they most likely will be a contribution to the workforce, if they are being serious then they wont get very far like the kids from south park which are goth/emo.
speaking of paradoxs lets say i go back in time to kill myself and i kill me. so now would i cease to be or since im already back in time would i still be there? i was reading about the super string theories and terminator and asked my friends this and they got mad at me.
heres a question which is better goth, punk, emo, sk8er, gangsta (not suit and tommy guns), or none of the above?
-
Could you prove your individuality by joining an English class? :banghead:
-
No. I'll not conform to the conformity of joining this "english class" of which you speak. I will however correct my last post if only you stop hitting you head against the wall.
Done.
-

the encounter could create a time paradox, the result of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the entire universe! Granted that's a worst case scenario. The destruction might in fact be very localized, limited to merely our own galaxy.

Take some of the lighter elements of punk, some of the lighter elements of goth, and some elements of "rocker" styles. Mix em all up, match it with commercialized "pseudo punk" music, and add a dash of teenage angst and that's "emo".
This sums it up:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMvMzQ4Vu-8
Personally I don't have a problem with any of it. It's just teens being teens. In my day, it was those long-sleeve rocker shirts, super-tight jeans, rippe jean jackets and hair with tons of hair spray. Same ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, different look. Of course, adults have short memories, so....
-
Ahh the days of big hair and aqua-net, lol
I remember some of my girlfriends at the time having this "helmet" of hair you could probably break a board over :)

hehe. yeah, im not being an old grump. kids is kids. im just sad there is really nothing to define being an 'emo'. seems like being a buddhist (except that you can define what a real buddhist is) just because you say you are...
-
They are defined by what they buy, just like every other teenager for the last howevermany years. They listen to emo music, just like punks listen to punk music and goths listen to goth music and cowboys listen to retard music. The first time a cave-teenager put a bone in his hair and tagged the wall of the cave with stick figures and antelopes, all the cave-adults started making unintelligible grunting noises about how he was a freak and what was he ever going to amount to.
-
...and cowboys listen to retard music.
lol. thing is, there arent really 'emo' bands. there are some like 'my chemical romance' that emos like, but nothing ties it together like punk music, or heavy metal. emos listening to emo music is like scientologists listening to scientologist music- it is that genre purely because they happen to listen to it. oh, for the good old days when anarachy came with a viscious 2/2 beat and they did tasteful things like spit on people and pierce their septums with safety pins...
-
You know why those days ended so fast? They all died or became retards from the drugs and infections.
So the ones still alive, I guess, make country music now.
-

Not true at all. Like I mentioned, "emo" started in the 80's with the emocore music movement, and it is most definitely a specific and unique genre of music.
The lines have been blurred ridiculously at this point because emo has been commercialized and emo for MTV is now the goal of labels. There is definitely a different style to emo music though. Bands like My Chemical Romance are and never were "true emo" but they have been adopted by the scene, so in that sense you are right..... but the same thing happened with punk music when it went mainstream.
-
The same thing happens to any form of entertainment. It becomes profitable, big business comes in, and it is diluted until it is no longer anything like what got it there. Then it dies and something else comes along.
-
I guess I AM getting old. I look at teens today and think to my self "What a bunch of puds..." I suppose I better "get with it" cuz one day I too will have to deal with a "teenager". Oh the joy... :-\
-
This is one of the largest periods of generational gap in modern history. Technology has become so prevalent and penetrated so thoroughly so fast that today's adults have no way to relate to kids who have grown up always having cell phones, a mature internet, the ability to steal any IP they could possibly want with no effort invested. Some of us may understand the technology itself but we just can't comprehend the way the kids, who have never known anything else, view it.
I'd say this is the largest generational gap in the US since the early 20th century when the first major wave of European immigrants didn't know how to deal with their American born children.

Does Mike Deuce make vinyl emo player stickers?
:laugh2:

I've always thought this song was pretty funny:
Scroll down and 'Play' the song: Emo Days -- Daddy, Why Did You Wear Girl Pants?

Eh, in 12th grade I had a pair of pants so ripped up I had to wear sweatpants underneath so my junk didn't hang out. Everyone dresses stupidly as a teenager.
-
I guess I AM getting old. I look at teens today and think to my self "What a bunch of puds..."
Um, yeah, that's an affirmative. If you are calling people "puds" you are definitely getting old.
-
I often had pants with bondage straps and zippers, tight black stirts, army boots, wearing some black eyeliner matrix style coat and walk into some club or bar where they play top40 music and such :P
Always fun :D
My party days are over now, but I'm still wearing black only, still got my 6 earrings and a hole in my lip from a piercing I had ^^;
I can get into most styles kids have now... but girls pants for guys?! :o
-
It's in style to be gay now. Hard to fathom but true. With the peer pressure in high school to be macho, though, you can't actually be gay and be accepted so I guess you just have to look gay.
It's all about what the girls want, anyway. Teenage boys will do anything to get laid. If the girls didn't like that look the guys wouldn't dress that way. If the girls wanted guys dressed like clowns, the guys would be dressed like clowns.
-
:laugh2:
I can see it happening in my head now...
No THERE would be a fashion that no-one would say was taken from a previous decade like most of the fashions nowadays ;D
If the girls didn't like that look the guys wouldn't dress that way. If the girls wanted guys dressed like clowns, the guys would be dressed like clowns.
-
It would be stealing directly from the early 70s.
-

Already been done... ever heared of krump or krumping? that often goes with clowns :P

yes, but if you played the hummingbirds, an emo would just laugh at you. all they have is that name borrowed from some earlier loose description of something they arent interested in...

and there are millions of kids that grew up thinking Blink 182 was true punk music. It doesn't mean that what you said previously was true. Emo is still a distinctive genre of music.
