Title: Looking for good classic video game screensaver
Post by: jasonbar on February 27, 2007, 03:24:22 pm
Howdy-

I'm having a devil of a time finding some simple Windows screensaver for my MAME cabinet.

Anything along the lines of Pac-Man, Pong, Space Invaders, Tron, you name it.  I did find a couple of Tron ones that didn't really excite me.

Anybody got any preferred screensavers?

Thanks,
-Jason

I use the pong clock screensaver.
You can get it here:
http://www.burovormkrijgers.nl/index1.html
The website is really crappy, you have to go to portfolio, show all, and scroll down to the clock that looks like pong.  There you'll find a link to the free screensaver.

Excellent--that will do nicely!  Thanks.  I was interested in buying one of his clocks too, but he's sold out.  Dang.

You can't get much cooler than the Mame Screensaver (http://tomspeirs.com/mamescreensaver/).

You are right. That website SUCKS!!! I could not even find the screen saver. When I went portfolio and clicked on the pong clock it brings up a friggin chair!

I think the guy is trying to prevent people from directly downloading the screensaver without being forced to look at all the other crap on the site.   :laugh2:

It's not a direct link.  It just loads the site index.  ::)

This guy has the site nicely wrap so direct links don't work.

Use this path:

Go to portfolio - Show All - Miscellaneous - Pong @ Clock, Screen Saver, scroll down and download.

I don't know what site you're going to. When I click on portfolio there is no + sign in front of show all. There is a + sign in front of misc under which there is a pong clock listed but there is not a + sign in front of it and when I click on pong clock it just loads a different picture on the same main page. Maybe it's different because I'm using Firefox. I don't know but I cannot for the life of me get to where I can find a link for the screensaver.

I'm using Firefox with no problems.  Click on Portfolio, then click on 'Show All' (no plus sign).  A bunch of expensive artsy stuff should show up in the window.  Scroll all the way down and you should see the pong clock image.  Click on it and you'll see a 'screensaver' link beneath it.

Hmm, or as I mentioned in the 2nd post:

I'm running MAMEWAH and it loads a screensaver that shuffles thru the screenshot folder. I really like this feature.
So it actually shows screenshots of all of the games I have loaded.

If you're not running MAMEWAH, you could do the same thing with any screensaver that slideshows images.  There are a couple freebies / inexpensive screensavers that will do this.

btw, I installed the Pong screensave last year and really likedit, but I was afraid it would cause screen burn-in. (I'm using a 25" TV, so it was a real fear).

You know I never even noticed but you're absolutely right.  It's a screen 'saver' that cause burn in. LOL  :laugh2:

Ok. This is what I get when I go to that site.

Saver1.jpg is what I get when I go to portfolio and click on show all.

saver2.jpg is what I get when I go to portfolio, browse, and misc. If I click on pong clock it take me back to the main screen again.

Read what it says for the description of saver1.jpg pic in the post above the pics. When I click on show all it just sends me back to the main page. xmenxmen has a link for the screen saver or at least that's what it looks like.

FYI, I mailed to this artist's site a while back & was later contacted that one of his Pong clocks was available.  I ordered it & received it (from the Netherlands) & it's been on my wall for a month or two.  Very cool.  Nice, solid product.  Really slick.  Not cheap (seeing as how it's "art" and all...).
