Title: Is this a worthy trade?
Post by: FrizzleFried on February 27, 2007, 03:00:02 pm
Hello folks...

I asked someone locally about a possible trade of my Joust for his Primal Rage.  He responded that he'd take the Joust and $200.00.   I'm considering offering him the Joust and $100.00.

Opinions?

How I see it:  I've been wanting a larger monitor for a horizontal MAME cabinet.  Primal Rage isn't what I would call a classic arcade cabinet,  so I wouldn't have an issue MAMEing it... If he accepted the $100 and Joust, id conver the PR to MAME,  sell the PCB on ebay.  I'd use all the new control panel parts off my current horizontal MAME rig then get to work on converting the current horizontal MAME rig to a dedicated Driving MAME rig...

...or not.

Hmmm...

I would think that Joust > Primal rage...   but that's just me.

Depends on the condition of the Joust, but for the most part, I'd laugh him off my porch until the $200 was on HIS side of the deal.

Unless this is a showcase cabinet, you are getting stiffed. A joust in good shape is more of a collectors item than a fugly primal rage.

Now, considering the fact that you have less than $100 in the joust, and assuming his cabinet is in tip-top shape, it would be worth the $200 you are thinking about offering him.

That is what I was thinking...

It's not a Showcase cabinet...but appears to be in good condition.  I just inquired as to what kind of monitor it has in it,  but I am pretty much convinced this is a bum deal.

He is asking $500.00 cash for it (without the Joust).  Bah...

You'd be taking it in the bum on this deal.

There are always more cabs you can get to MAME.  You cannot always get another real collector classic game.

Yeah, what he said...

For $500 that better be a crystal clear monitor, no burn, and recently capped.  And it better have a nice ass.

That's a nice looking Joust you have there.  Keep it.

Not sure about the ass of the cabinet,  but the rest looks nice...for an ugly ass PR cabinet (who OKed that god awful artwork!?).

Primal Rage is neat, but not anywhere as neat as a Joust.

I say sell the Joust and take up smoking again. The money you make from selling Joust will easily pay for a few cartons and a chemo treatment or two.

Dunno what country YOU are from but here Chemo is friggin' expensive!

I could sell the cabinet,  buy a boat load of smokes and send em to [edit: Ceasar Chavez] for HIM to smoke though!

er...that's not nice...sorry.

Welp...the guy with the PR just posted that he is moving and needs to sell the cabinet.  Dropped the price from $500 to $400.   I emailed em and said if he doesn't sell it and needs it gone by the time he moves,  I'll give em $200 for it.   ::)

That's more like it.
Your original question was appalling.

Hehehe...I wouldn't go THAT far!  If I had pulled the trigger before getting opinions from the folks "in the know",  THAT would be appalling!  Asking for advice simply shows that (A) I am new at this,  but (B) I am not STUPID.

I would think you should be able to sell the Joust and buy two Primal Rage cabs.

I use a PR cab to run JAMMA boards. It's not a bad cab as generic/JAMMA setups go, but it definitely falls in this category. Mine had been converted to Tekken 3, but I bought it for $100 (with a dead Tekken 3 PCB --gaudy cabinet art included). I think I did get a good deal on that considering the 25" monitor works pretty well.
