Is there any way to play a wav (or other sound file) when Mala starts up? I see the option for starting a game, but not one for starting the frontend.
Also, is there a simple way to play a random .wav when the game starts? Some of the wav sounds on my cab get old after a while, so I was hoping there was a way to pull a random .wav when starting a game.
Thanks in advance.

Well no :-[ but there will be when I expand my 'EmuWave (http://mala.arcadezentrum.com/plugins.html#EmuWave) ' Plug-in.
I have a 'want' for this as well. I have samples of a lot of cool 'Duke Nukem 3D' quotes that I want to fire off randomly. :D

Excellent thanks and good luck.

Pardon me for adding my two cents, but the ability to play a random sound (from a list, perhaps?) for each of mala's sound events -- particularly game start and game exit -- would make me cry some happy tears!
Having a different sound event for menu selection vs. actually starting a game (particularly when navigating a tree structure) would probably enable me to die a happy man.
loadman, I'm sorry I have no programming skills at all, or I'd be helping you to implement this! :notworthy:
Staying tuned indeed!

Menu Selection and game start triggers are already Built into MaLa
The EmuWave Plug-in will be expanded to trigger random Wavs. This will be worked on in my free time after V2 Of the Led-Wiz Plug-in is release (which is looking good)

OK
The MALA LED-Wiz Plug-In V2 is all but done. It is under final testing and should be released in the next few days..
My point is I now have time to expand on the Emu-Wave Plug-in
I was just going to add a few feature I personally want (random Wav's)
* Play random Wav file When Starting MaLa
* Play random Wav file When Starting Game
* Play random Wav file When quiting Game
* Play random Wav file When Quiting MaLa
Also
* Play random Wav of Game-List change
You group your wavs in folders and just let the plug-in know what folder you wish it to randomly choose a wav from on the above events.
I plan to include a lot of 'Duke Nukem 3D quotes' I know it is not in keeping with my arcade table but it's cool anyway..
Classic quotes when you launch a game like:
"Who wants Some?"
"It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum. An I'm all outta Gum"
If you can think of any other cool features to add, now is a good time to let me know
;D

I asked to you when you released your first emuwave plug-in. I tried to increase the volume of the wavs but all of them are played t with a very low sound. If you can add a volume selector for them it will be great
Thank you for your help Loadman

Hi..
Well I can Kinda :P
You said that the problem is the wav get's drowned out in your background music.
As I pointed out to you at the time the problem is they are on the same volume control as the background music. :(
Refer here:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=62925.msg626741#msg626741 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=62925.msg626741#msg626741)
Did you try putting the wavs you use into an audio editor (even 'sound recorder'that comes with windows) to increase the volume of the wavs as I suggested in that post? [edit] Sorry You answered that
I'm not trying to be difficult here I just don't know a suitable solution :dunno
I can bring up the volume for the wav to play and drop it back down to where it was after wav plays (as I do in Led-Wiz Plug-in V2 'Flash N Speak' option) but the problem is I think it will also bring up your background music too... ;)
Q1) If that is acceptable to you I can implement that with the next version ;D
Let me know . taaaaaaa
[EDIT] Late thought..
MaLa plays Music via BASS.DLL.
Q2) If it's possible for me to pause the music while the wav plays would that be acceptable?

This will be awesome, thanks again. I have a cab I'm building on the whole Wargames theme. It get's kinda old hearing "Shall we play a game" over and over, but if you get this going I'll be dumping a whole snot load of movie .wav clips.
The guy building the Starfighter cab might be interested as well.

(First of all, thanks for the PM.) I think the above is great!! I wouldn't complain at all with this. I also like the way you're implementing it (folders instead of specific playlists) because then it becomes VERY easy to swap out new sounds.
That said, you did ask for ideas ... >:D The only thing that I could think of (which may be a pain to implement in the first place) has to do, specifically with navigating a Tree Structure.
Right now mala can't tell the difference between advancing across the nodes of a tree and starting a emulator/game. To mala, it's all "game start." So lets say that gets solved (and it could be, easily enough I think.) Then there's the issue of which direction you're traveling (i.e. toward the root, or toward the branches.)
If there was a way to specify between the two, and then specify AGAIN regarding which direction you're going... that'd be fantastic... not to mention also being very specific to the way I designed my cabinet in my head! ;D
That's enough of my babble! :blah:

Ahh I meant ideas for this Plug-In.
Unless I completely missunderstood your suggestion you are asking for a MaLa change.
I am not smart enough to be the author of MaLa. That would be SWINDUS. He is open to ideas so I will PM a link to this post so he does not miss it ;)

Perhaps I was being unclear; the idea was that mala could play a random sound for each specific event:
1. Traversing forward (toward the branches) in a tree/menu structure.
2. Traversing backward (toward the root.)
3. Starting a game. (which is just not the same thing as navigating the tree, but right now mala treats it as such.)
Does that make ANY sense? I'm sorry, I'm coming from having used 3dArcade for so long (and oh jeebus WHY did I do that?? :banghead:) that I'm used to the tree structure. The fact that mala offers it as an option was part of what drew me to it... that and the fact that Atomic has that annoying "acknowledgements" screen whenever you close the program...
I thought this *was* an idea for the plug-in. Sorry. Like I said, it's probably a pain to implement. I guess it's not an issue with the way mala handles sound, it's just an issue with mala itself.
That said, never mind. :-\

Thanks for clarifying ;D
I will ponder this ........................ :)

I added a new sound event for the tree navigation and two new plugin events: MaLaTreeUp and MaLaTreeDown.

Wow, I'm stunned! You guys don't waste any time at all, do you? ;D I look forward to the next release (of mala, and of the plugin!)
Really... wow! This community never ceases to amaze me.
:notworthy:
Oh hey, getting back to CyrusMzRG's problem with his .wavs. It sounds to me like he needs to download something like Audacity and "normalize" all of his .wavs so their volume is consistent with the background music. (I hope it's okay to post links... I'm not affiliated with these guys in any way.)
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
It's free, and it's easy to use. Hope that helps. I know it did for the voice samples I use in my cab (I use Adobe Audition, but the concept is the same.) Not to mention normalizing a batch of .wavs is mountains easier than overhauling the way mala handles sound! :)

Nice little prog ;) .... But I think I will stick with Audition too!
