Title: Transporting cabs
Post by: horseboy on February 26, 2007, 01:03:27 pm
Is there any harm in transporting a cab lying on it's back. I really can't think of any reason why it would be off hand, but it just seems like something that you shouldn't do.  :dunno

Sure there can be if you don't check to see if the monitor is secured well and there isn't anything floating around in the cab.  And if you don't remove anything that may dislodge in transit.

Ever hear the rattle of a metal bracket followed by the shattering of a CRT?

A friend of mine does it all the time. But he is also careful to make sure the monitor is bolted down, the cashbox, manuals, loose screws (or anything loose) is removed from the machine so no damage can occur.

I've done it with most of my cabs as I used to move them in a station wagon.  It's safe so long as you take real care to ensure everything is properly bolted down or removed.

I've transported 3 of my cabinets on their back in the bed of my truck (with shell),  and I was dismayed to find out that my DKJr cabinet wouldn't fit on it's back (damn control panel was about 1" too tall,  so it had to go on it's SIDE.

All made it here without issue...though I did make sure that they all had secure monitors...well,  all but one,  and that one's monitor was holding on by a friggin' thread (hence my LEARNING and checking from then on).

I've moved all of my cabs lying down. Indeed check if the monitor is fixed, else it may slide out and can break the neck of the CRT....

Just make sure nothings loose and throw em in there! They've been beat around for 15+ years, don't bother babying them until they're completely done.  ;D

I almost always transport cabs on thier back after checking to make sure that everthing is secure. I just find that standing them up is too much wind drag. And trying to clean bug guts off a cab is a pain in the butt.

Please tell me you made a 1600 mile round trip just to pick up a game. If so, you are quite hardcore.  :notworthy:

It's a great way to smuggle Mexicans in.  No one ever checks in the Q Bert.

Just got my Centipede in. Since I had to use my own car (not the one on the pictures above)  I had to transport it on it's side.....no damage done....

Yep, 1600 miles for a single game that'll never make anybody's classic list.

I love a good road trip.  ;D
