Title: WTB a MODEM.....Yea! a MODEM.
Post by: Thenasty on February 25, 2007, 06:28:03 pm
I have lots of modem and tried several and none of them had CALLER ID Capable. Even some of the modem that did say it was capable, it was a BIG FAT LIE. To late its been years and of course warranty/return is over.  :banghead:

I am looking if anyone have one lying around. I have read this modem "Jaton WINCOM 56K V92 PCI Intel/Ambient w/Voice/Caller" and had good reviews on it, but its gonna cost me $25 (its not gonnae bankrupt me but), it seems that kinda expensive. I am so used to buying modem for $10.00 or sometimes give aways ( I give them away too, with anyone around here that needs FAXING only).

So does anyone have one (make sure it is capable) for sale, trade, FREE  ;D

What do you have for trade?

hmmm....let me think......oh, got one, how about my DSL modem (Westell) for your PCI modem ?

What ya looking for ?

Got a quote from Provantade totalling less than $22.00 shipped. If I get none here, I quess hae no choice.

I am just sick and tired of all this Telemarketing calling my house, UNKNOWN number and not leaving messages, I WANNA FREAKING BLOCKED them all :)

Been playing around this proggie, PhoneTray Free, its kida kewl. You can select or make your own WAV msgs ( I gonna give it to them :) ) to tell them to get LOST. But in order for it to work correctly, a caller ID capable modem must be used. If a regualr one is used, everyone calls will be UNKNOWN. Evem my Creative MODEM BLASTER is no good....   :hissy: :hissy: :banghead: :banghead:

Dude...simple solution.   The vast majority of telemarketers use an AUTO DIAL system.  Said AUTO DIAL system recognizes a disconnected number signal and then marks said phone number as disconnected,  never to be called again.   Simply find a WAV of the disconnected number signal (just the first 2 tones is necessary).   Add those two tones to the beginning of your answering machine and let it answer all your calls for a month or two.

I had DOZENS of asshat telemarketers and bill collectors calling my new phone number.  Evidently the jerkoff who owned the number before me was a real scum bag because I can't tell you how many collection companies called.

I added these tones to my answering machine...within 2 months I was down to MAYBE a call every 4 or 5 days.   Now,  9 months later (after explaining the situation to many NON-AUTOMATED callers),  I still get a call every couple of weeks looking for the prior owner.

I'm going to leave the whole message on there and see if it works on in-laws too!

Why don't you add yourself to the do-not-call list?

I did add myself to DNCL. I read somewhere that is not 100% good. Also I dunno how some this callers do it, they somehow manage to have there # says UNKNOWN in the caller ID and since I have set my System that does not accept those people who don't want to dispaly their numbers so they get a message that they have to dial *82 first, this UNKNOWN gets thru.

I have  a gut feeling that telemarketers are trying to get smart ( I would if I work for them ).

I am in a point that when they call, I just pick up quickly and hang up, or sometimes I ask if I could call him/her in thier house (like 2am or 3am) and talk then  ;)
If you work at night, daytime is your sleeping time, and phone rings and bother you, so I figured call them during thier sleep and see how they feel.

Anyway enought of my rant.....CAn't wait for the modem to arrive ( I thought I was done with 28.8/56k modems )  :banghead:

You know you have to subscribe to the call id service (pay the phone company) to receive the caller id info on your phone / modem right?
