I decided to blow the dust off of the command.dat and update it with all of the fabulous work that Fabricio da Silva Coroquer had been doing for an unofficial version. I merged all of his changes into the original version, since his removed all of the non-fighting games. Only the shorthand version has been updated, and will probably be the only version updated for the time being until I can convert it all back to long hand. Anyway, if you're still a fan of the command.dat, or aren't familiar with what it is or how to use it, head over to http://home.comcast.net/~plotor/command.html

Sweet job man. :applaud:
Many newer mamers may not even know about command.dat. I think that any fighter fan should care about it and be appreciative of all the hard work.

Like me ! This is awesome. Now I just have to figure out how to get it to work! Well done Procyon. This is one of those things you find out after leaving MAME aside for a few years, and it's all grown up while you've been away.

His site mentions those 2 particular Mame builds you can use for this, but you can also use Howard_Casto's Johnny5 app. This is the best way IMO.
Come to think of it, if you don't know about command.dat, you may also not know about J5. It is a sweet little app to show you what buttons do what for each particular game. Roll that together with command.dat and you are set. :notworthy:

Oh sweet! Can't wait to test them out.

J5 I've definitely heard of, but not played with yet. So that's good news - I should be able to get command.dat, J5 and MaLa to all play nicely, even without using some mame32 variant that might be a lot of trouble to keep current?!
Coolness

Yeah I externalized support for that very reason. Keeping up a custom build of mame is a real pain in the butt for anyone, so you can't expect it to be current. I like just using ahk scripts to get j5 to pop-up in game as it means I can look at things like command.dat and still have vanilla mame even if it just came out yesterday.

...any way to get this to work with command line MAME?
-
You guys forgot to mention that you've added new command flags.
So far I've found Upper-case "O" or "_O" which I'm assuming is for a hold symbol.
Any others you want to mention, as the author's guide is out of date?

I believe mame plus supports this.
