I ordered this Antec Case about 6 months ago from newegg.com. I ordered mainly because I liked the case and it was super cheap. It came with a cheapo antec 350w psu. I have only actually used the machine for 2-3 months because it was sitting in the box for awhile. The reviews said it was a POS that broke pretty quick.
Anyways weird thing was when I had my USB Hard Drive. Slim Western Digital 80gb drive plugged in that device was getting power to it. But when I tried to turn the system on at the power button it was like nothing. I did put my ear up to the back of the PSU and it does make some weird kind of noise. When I unplug it the weird noise goes away. It is very weird, but I think it has gone defective. Anyways I went to NewEgg.com and there are so many of these things. Some are close to 100 others are cheaper. I don't want to go above 100. I have a CD-RW, SATA HD, PCIe ATI Radeon X1300 Pro, and thats really about all. USB devices and such, but is there a brand you guys like or something that has lasted a long time. I think in my other system I have an Antec Tru Blu or something like that.>>I can't remember though but I think I had better luck with one of those.

Has some great reviews. It is not Nvidia SLI Ready. But I only have one video card anyways.

anymore.... I think they are all junk.

antec is usually good

With regards to the noise, have you tried replacing the fan?

if it dont work. that effort would be futile

Seasonic.
A lower wattage version should fit your system.

For your specs, any 250 to 300w power supply should be good. I personally would not spend more than 30 (event that's expensive) on a power supply. From my experience, power supply failure are a hit and miss so most brands are about the same. On the other hand if you want every juice that comes out from the power supply, you need to spend way way more.
BTW, if you can wait, Frys.com ever so many week has the Ultra 500w free after rebate.

What case did you buy? The Antec Sonata II has a problem with the power supply that comes with the case. The replacement power supplies are identical but do not have the problem.
I would get at least a 400W or so, in case you decide to add extra components.
Your current setup would work fine with 250W-300W like xmenxmen said.

one thing i did find is with cheaper powersupplys (at least in my experience) the cheaper the ps the more heat it throws.

The noise you are hearing is the PSU saying...
I'VE FALLEN AND I CAN'T GET UP :laugh2:

Seasonic
Enermax
Fortron/Sparkle
see silentpcreview.com for some good power supply information.

If you can get your hands on the PSU before you buy it a good sense for the quality is the weight of the PSU, the heavier the better.
Brands I would avoid :-
Antec (they are not all bad but could be better)
Akasa (Very high failure rate from people I have spoken with)
X-Connect (Modular, but cheap in construction and usually price)
Good brands that you generally can't go wrong with even at the cheaper end of the range:-
Seasonic (as mentioned above several times)
Enermax (Liberty is nice as its modular, and noisetaker are quite good too)

Here is the original case I bought.

Here is the PSU by itself.

Clearly this particular PSU prolly just sucks.
I have never had problems with Antec up until now. I built my bro a system to take to college same PSU and he never had a problem. Knock on wood.
It does make a weird sound. Only prob is the PSU is a Smart Fan system the rear fan won't turn on till PSU gets hot. Can't get hot if I can't get it fully operational. I will prolly RMA this to Antec, and when they send me a new one....that one will then go on eBay! The one I listed in the second post has gotten some good praise. I may go with that one.

Okay taking the information I received from you guys it looks like I will be making my choice on the SeaSonic S12-430 ATX12V 430W Power Supply.
Here is the link:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817151023
It is more expensive than the Antec one, but other reviewers on NewEgg says it was real good, and it has a very low rate of failure. If it does fail I will send it back to newegg.
Should I get the $15 1 year warranty from newegg or just stick with the three year manufacture warranty?
-
I also like how the wires have that mesh on them. Keepin it clean!

Don't bother with the newegg warranty. Good choice!
