Title: Connect 2 Race Drivin Cabs?

Can 2 Race Drivin uprights be connected to race against each other?  I've read where I thought they could be, and then it sounds like they can't be.

Is there a communication card required in each?   I know they have a "buddy race" but it sounds like it just has the last drivers car, replayed in the next race.   

If it's a big deal, I won't bother trying to get a second cabinet.

I'm pretty sure I remember playing head-to-head with friends on either Race Drivin or Hard Drivin...

We have two in the shop.  In their last location I'm sure they were linked, but I didn't have anything to do with it.  I'll see if I can get another opinion...

They can be linked.  I have two and they are linked together.  Race Drivin's (and hard drivin's) hardware is equipped to do it.  Hard Drivin never got the software though.  Race Drivin did, but early revisions of software did not have it.  Neither of my games had up to date software to do it.  But, thanks to MAME they got the latest revison and now talk to each other.  There was like 5 revisions of software, and I am not sure when they made the change to allow linking...

I concur, Race Drivin uprights are definately linkable. The link port is on the back of the cabinet where any kid can tamper with it. If memory serves it is a 24 pin Null Modem serial cable. I can't recall the gender of the cable. I will check tomorrow (2/21/07) what the cable is for sure.

Thanks for all the replies! That's just the information I was looking for.  It might be worth having a second cabinet for that.   I'll have to keep in mind the software update.

Im building 2 metal frame racers right now, with 2 -27" lcds & linking via 2 computers to race together, it takes up less room than 2 cabs & looks great

Well I picked up my first Race Drivin cabinet (compact).   I had a line on a second one.  This one definitely has the connection on the back that people referenced before.   It needs a bit of cosmetic work but nothing too bad, and it works 100%.

After moving the first one,  I'm really not sure I even want to pursue a second one.   First off...it's HEAVY.   Second, it's tall.   I could squeeze it in, but I'm just not sure it's worth the struggle.   

I think I should just be happy with the deal I got on the first one.
