Title: mala custom spot in layout fails to load
Post by: joebells on February 19, 2007, 11:46:08 pm
Hi I am working on a skin(just a copy of an already done skin at a higher res and changed up a bit) and I am trying to get a picture of the corresponding console to load using the custom 1 attribute. It shows up in the skin editor ok but when I run mala it doesn't show up. I am trying to use the custom attribute instead of just having it in the background as I want a corner of it to overlap my title screenshot.

Does anyone have any ideas why it will show up in the skin editor but not the skin itself when ran? I've tried jpg, png, and gif.

doh

I actually did read that post when I couldn't get my background to load and didn't even think about it for this problem. Thanks loadman. Do you have any clue why I can't use a 1280x720 png for my background? I can use a 1280x720 jpg and it works fine but it just throws up an error and won't even load at all if its a png.

Can you post the error message?

I was saving the png's with photoshop cs3 and it gave me that error. I decided to try and save the png's with illustrator(didn't try before because I didn't know I could set a crop mark and have it export just that part I kept getting the whole illustrator image before) and it works fine now. Must just be a problem cs3 photoshop beta has with png's right now. The png's cs3 created did open in other programs though. These illustrator png's work fine though and look way better than a jpeg saved at highest quality.

Another problem I have though (sorry) is that when I am scrolling down by letter in some of my lists it crashes. When I turn my tv on later I will get the exact error message.

ok it seems to be just my nes list and just on certain games. When I am scrolling through the list it will throw up the error at certain games. Like magic darts (j) and such I am guessing its a problem with the picture itself which is in png format(all the nes pictures are in png format) but once again the pictures load fine in the ms picture viewer and paint and such. I didn't create these picture either they were downloaded from the no intro screenshot archive.

The error message says unexpected error has occured mala will shut down now or something pretty close to that.

Heres the log entry

2007/02/24  09:31:03.29   Error: Object Class: TTimer, Object Function: LoadPicture, Exception Class: EAccessViolation, Exception Message: Zugriffsverletzung bei Adresse 004BB964 in Modul 'MaLa.exe'. Lesen von Adresse 022FD000

edit: ok I checked the offending png's in ifranview and it seems to have a problem with png's with 32bits of color most of the png's have 8 bits of color but there are some in there with 32 and thats seems to be the ones that it crashes on.

This is a known error:
http://mala.arcadezentrum.com/help.html#faq12

You have to convert/resave the snaps which trigger this error.

32bit png's are corrupt png's? The png's open in anything else?

No, not 32bit png's at all. But the 32bit png's in the NES,SNES snap collections.

Sure its also a MaLa problem but I don't know how to fix it because I use a third party component for the png files.

Ah ok. Hope I didn't sound ungrateful for the free frontend as I appreciate it.

I do have one other problem though.  :o  I bought the new microsoft wireless gaming reciever to use my wireless xbox 360 controllers. And it works fine until I walk away for a while and the controllers shut off to save batteries. When I turn them back on mala doesn't recognise them I have to restart mala for it to recognise them again. Would there be a way to have mala poll periodically for a controller or something similar? Maybe its just an issue with the way ms setup the driver or something?

oh and another problem is that it keeps losing the checkbox that says joystick with these wireless controller and when I go in and check the box it defaults to the joystick down and right being pressed and I have to restart mala.

MaLa disables the joystick polling when no joystick is connected.

Would it be possible to force it to be enabled with a secondary checkbox and to periodically check for a connected controller possibly? Please.
