Title: Clean Up MP3 Collection Help
Post by: FrizzleFried on February 19, 2007, 09:23:56 pm
Does anyone have any suggestion for a program that would help me clean up my MP3 collection?   Set proper directories,  etc?

Thanks!

if the files are tagged try explorer
change the view setting to details and you can set which details to show
and then click the top of the box with the album tag and it will put them in order then crate a directory manually and drop them into it one album at a time

This is the program I like to use for editing the tags and such.

This is one I use that will read your Tags and create directories based on Artists and Albums.
http://www.magic-tagger.com/eng/index.php

It will do 5 files at a time, but if you pay for the program it will rip through them fast as heck. Just be careful that you do a few test runs on files before you unleash it on your collection. As well there is a way to look at what you are doing before you do it.

I'll second the Magic MP3 Tagger.  I used it for my stuff and it worked pretty well.  I especially liked being able to create directories based on artist, title, etc.  Just make sure you check over the results it comes up with.  I noticed that it came up with the wrong artists/titles once in a while.  If you're doing the trial 5 songs at a time version, it should be pretty easy to glance at the 5 songs before you tag em.

Being that my collection is up to about 600 albums and over 5,500 songs,  I think I need to consider the full version.   What is $19 euros in US dollars?

I suppose I could look that up.

I think I paid 34.00 for it.

I processed just under 400 albums with it. Just make sure like mentioned above you check your files before you hit the process button because it can/will mess up some files if they are not tagged properly. Its still a good app and if I was asked I would highly recommend it.

MP3 Tag Tools.  It's free and does all the same things the ones you pay for do.  I haven't used it for re-organizing my collection (I use CDEx and automatically rip to Artist/Album folders) but I did use it for some of the other functions and it worked flawlessly.  It's also good for cleaning up ID3 tags.

Foobar2000 with the masstagger plugin does the job for me,

Most of the dedicated tagging programs are limited in the filetypes they will deal with

I have about 40%mp3, 40% flac, and the rest m4a, aac, mpc, wma and a couple of others I have forgotten about. Does em all.

I used MusicBrainz. It's free.

I pretty much have all my music organized into folders already by artist - album.
