I am going with a translucent blue, but I may or may not plug in the bulb? I have a bright white LED, but need some way to position it in a vertical posistion under the trackball. The default setup on it now is a normal bulb in a sideways posistion.
So what would you guys do as far as me setting up one of these superbright LEDs under the trackball where the light will shine upwards instead of the bootleg sideways posistion now.
To make it more understandable. The socket is sideways I need the socket to be up and down.

I went with the translucent blue one myself, but I have not compared it directly to the solid one.
I'll probably replace the light bulb with an LED in the future. Someone on here posted some pictures of a little U shaped cradle made out of wood they used to mount the LED. I'll see if I can find the thread.

I'm going with translucent blue in my cab. Even if I couldn't light it, I like the look of the translucent ball a bit better than a solid color one.

Take a look at this thread for ideas/pictures of mounting an LED under a trackball:

I also run with a translucent blue TB...though it would be BITCHEN to have a CLEAN translucent TB with MULTI COLOR LED's going through the color spectrum!!??
-
Knowing my luck, instead of a rainbow spectrum it would combine the colors and form some sort of poo brown.
-
LOL. Okay I will have to somehow rig something up and hope it looks cool. Also though just looking at it, it looks cool. Like without the light it is a nice blue color.

I used 3 White LEDs clustered to light my trackball and it looks awesome.

Now, mine was built before the lightmite came out. I would have probably got one of those. So I second the plug.
Plugged plug.

I like the looks of this device, but why is WHITE not one of the LED color choices? Unless I missed something, Red, Green and Blue are the only choices. Most translucent balls are colored... wouldn't it be appropriate to have white as one of the options? For instance, I'm planning to get a translucent YELLOW ball. Obviously shining R,G or B through it would turn the color to mud...

The correct color led produces better results. Whit tends to wash out the color a bit. I didn't know yellow was an option...I can produce a special version for you if you like with 4 individual yellow leds (since I have them in stock) at 5 volts. Or you can get the kit and install your own yellow led(s).

Looks pretty sweet. Do you just screw it through the base of the trackball support?

Yep. Sometimes there is already a hole there for you to use, otherwise just drill one. (depends on the type of trackball)
