I'm going to see it with my father and a friend in a few days at a theatre a town over. I saw is most recent HBO special, and it was pretty good, but not great. Nowhere near as good as his old stuff. Anyone seen his "2006" show, and what did you think?
-
I saw Carlin in Las Vegas in August of 2005...and it sucked. And when I say SUCKED, I mean it was almost "walk out" bad...and evidently my bar is set lower than some as i'd say a good 20% of the audience DID in fact walk out.
Something happened to Carlin...he has always been a leftist, but since Bush took office it went from funny political jokes to just mean spirited CRAP.
I was HUGELY disappointed in the show and I will never spend another red cent on the guy. I suggest you go rent a few of his older videos and enjoy them because his latest act (as of 8/2005) was about as bad as they come.

Carlin would make a MINT if he sold thicker skins at the door! 8)

Naw...I can laugh at Bush with the rest of `em ...but he is gotten MEAN. Not funny...mean. He also has started making fun of the handicapped, the suicidal, etc...
It's like he has turned in to a bitter old man.
-
Well, he's probably bitter, and he's probably old, but can he truly say he's been both at once?
-
He has the balls to make fun of people and topics, no other comedian will go near nowadays. I saw his HBO special in 2005, which I'm guessing is the same one Fred saw, and I thought it was pretty funny. I do remember him making fun of the suicidal, and from what I remember, I thought it was funny. People are just too sensitive now.

and he's always made fun of the handicapped...that's not new......
-
The last Carlin HBO special I saw it seemed like he was more interested in reading from his script then pausing for the audience laughs or applause. Not that there were that many of them.
I thought the special sucked.

He's just not too funny any more. I think I got MAYBE 10 laughs out of his show...which sucks for a 2 hour show. I miss the "Icebox Man" Carlin.
-
I have three or four of his old albums. Class Clown is probably my favorite (The Seven Words You Can't Say on TV)

Indeed.
"Hire the handicapped, but don't let them take your rectal temperature!"
I think it's simply a symptom of getting older and starting to look for things to feign offense at. Or purposeful forgetfulness.
The guy's funny, but like everyone, is growing older. He's the same person he was, only now that he's older, people look at him like he's suddenly become a "bitter old man". He's simply tried to package more of what he did in order to make money, that's all, and that's what makes him less funny - marketing.

Yeah, and add to the fact that his "irreverant" humor, talking about untalkables is pretty passe in the current age. The "7 words you can never say on television" are no longer sacred, jokes about poop and sex are pretty much the norm.....his "edge" is dull and his jokes haven't kept up. Don't get me wrong, I still like Carlin....
