Hello all! I installed my AVGA card into my cab about a week ago and I got to say this thing is sweet! I just can't seem to find a sweet spot for most of my vertical games.. Some of the the resolutions don't seem to fit with the Betson Multisync's parameters. They get cut off at the bottom and there doesn't seem to be anything I can to do to fix it.
Let's use 1942 as an example.. After running MameRes it selects 392x240@60hz. It looks nice, but you can't see the bottom of the screen unless I run hwstretch along with it. There is at least 1 more that does this. Don't remember the resolution of Centipede, but I know it does it with that game too.
Anyone have any suggestions possibly I've missed something. I don't want to run hwstretch at the native resolutions as it seems to add way to much blur to the game.

Since you have the Multisync, you may want to try:
400x300
512x384
640x480

Bottom line is that you will never be able to run vertical games on a horizontal monitor in a 1:1 pixel ratio without the top and bottom being cut off...there just aren't enough pixels vertically to accommodate the native resolution of the game. Your ONLY option if you NEED to see the entire picture is to HW stretch...

Maybe I am wrong as I have never used a medium resolution monitor, only standard resolution and PC monitors (hi res)...but wouldn't he still be required to enable hardware stretching to FILL the screen of a medium res monitor then? It wouldn't be 1:1 pixel ratio...

I can fill the screen with using hwstretch with all available resolutions. But I don't understand why it won't display native without hwstretch 392x240 @60hz. If the vertical res is 240 than the Betson should be able to display up to 480 lines. Actually, it supports up to 800x600. The funny thing about it is that it really is cut off and not just overscanning. In other words, even manually adjusting the vertical size won't help. The bottom last inch or so simply doesn't exist.

The scan range of the Betson said, it should be able to not only handle the native resolution of shooters, but probably double the resolution on most of them.
That said, I gave it a shot and noticed the top and bottom cut off of the vertical shooters (320x240 res rotated, think native was 432x320 according to AdvanceMAME) with the Betson sitting horizontally - didn't matter if I was native or 2x the resolution. This was with an NVidia card instead of an AVGA. This doesn't happen on a different monitor I use with MAME, so the Betson may be suspect though you'll want to test different refresh rates, resolutions, and other such to be thorough.

Well after more playing with mameres tool from minwah I have found that if I change the "match pixel with in" setting I can see the rest of the screen just fine with said 392x240@60hz.. I had to change it from default 16 to 48.. This fixed this problem, but seemed to create more in other games. Also I get the famous squished out of focus scores at the top of the screen. For now I have changed all vertical shooters to 640x480 -hwstretch 1 as I have seemed to exhaust all other options and simply do not have the knowlodge to find anything better.
On the plus side I set the "matched pixels within" to 0 and all of my horizontal games look better than ever. This almost completely removes the side squishing I use to see when playing side scrolling platforms. It really did make a huge difference somehow? Of course it could be to something else as I played around a little more with the Betson's settings. Now I have it totally rocking for horizontal games running at naitive. :cheers:
